-examples(word problems)made to help students solve and understand subtraction in word problems

Objective/Purpose (For the student's benefit, explain what students will be able to do
by the end of the lesson and why these objectives are important to accomplish.):
-they will understand how to do subtraction in word problems

-they will learn to break down word problems and strategize

Input (What information is essential for the student to know before


beginning and how will this skill be communicated to students?):
-They have previously learned how to do subtraction and now they’re skills are being practiced by doing
subtraction word problems

- they also learned how to count down/up and math facts

Model (If you will be demonstrating the skill or competence, how will this be done?):
-she models the problem at the end, and shows the strategy she used to the class

-she explains the problem visually on a whiteboard

Check for Understanding (Identify strategies to be used to determine if students have


learned the objectives.):
- has students do problems on their own and explain their strategy/answer to the class.

Guided Practice (List activities which will be used to guide student practice and provide a
time frame for completing this practice.):
- Students work on a math word problem on their own and hold up their whiteboard to the camera until
the teacher says they got the problem right.
- if the students in correctly complete the problem the teacher suggests a different strategy to try again

Closure (What method of review and evaluation will be used to complete the lesson?):

-none
Independent Practice (List homework/seatwork assignment to be given to students to
ensure they have mastered the skill without teacher guidance.):

-There is a seesaw program where they can explain how they got a certain problem and do the work on their
own. The teacher is still able to see the students doing their work and monitor how they got their answer.
