RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, subjects of the study, data gathering
instrument used, data gathering procedures and statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

This study assessed the Mental Health Status of the CLB Students During the
New Normal Setting and used the descriptive method of research in order to attain the
objectives of the study. Ritchie et al. (2013) opined that by using the descriptive method
the research will be able to observe a large mass of target population and make
required conclusions about the variables. The researchers effectively designed a pre-
structured questionnaire with closed ended questions. The information collected from
the responses was statistically presented in this type of research method.

Subjects of the Study

The subject of the study are the CEDUC Department with a total number of 449
students in the school year 2021. By using sampling methods, the number of
respondents is reduced to 208 using the Slovin’s formula of 5% margin of error to
represent the whole population. Table 1 shows the population size and the sample size
of the whole population.

Data Gathering Instrument
The researchers made a questionnaire that corresponds to the research entitled,
Mental Health Status of the CLB Students During the New Normal Setting, which
contains two parts. Part one is all about the demographic profile of the respondents.
Part two is subdivided into three parts that tackles about different Mental Health
Status of the Students. The data collected from the questioner were consolidated
and interpreted.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researches used the recent issues in relation to the field to come up with a

topic of the study. To verify the validity if the topic, the researchers perused for the

approval; of the researcher’s Practical Research instructor, Dr. Retchie M. Guico.

Suggestion of the instructor which was related to the topic supported the researcher’s

study. The researchers made a self-structured questionnaire and was assigned to

revise some parts of the questionnaire to make it more appropriate. After the revision

the researches passed it again for the research adviser to have her initials on it. The

researchers seek for the assistance of Mrs.Gaylee Masangcay Master Teacher II and

Mrs. Sarah Jane c. Macapuno Secondary Public-School Teacher in validating the

questionnaire. The through validation process was to make the study more

understandable and effective for the researchers and respondents. The researcher
randomly selects the participants in different year level and section and distribute the

questionnaire. The participants answered the categories, after the participants answer

the questionnaire researchers describe the respondent given.

Statistical Treatment of Data

This identifies the statistical formula used in the study and justifies their used.
This study used Slovin’s formula as a statistical tool for determining the sample size
to be used in this study, which is 208 with a 5% margin error. As the respondents
answered the questionnaire, the research determined the Mental Health Status of
the CLB Students During the New Normal Setting. Different statistical tools were
used in treating data.

Frequency. this was utilized to determine the number of respondents who answered
the questionnaire provided with the scale.

Numerical Ranking. This was used to determine the positional ranking of the items.

Ranking. This was utilized to determine the positional raking of the items.

Weighted Mean. This was used to determined the answer of the student based on the
questionnaire conducted by the researchers.

Solvins Formula. This was used to calculate the sample size (n) given the population
size (N) and the margin of error (e). It is computed as n= N/(1+Ne2).
