A.

1. A National Artist of the Philippines were the ones who met the standards given by higher
officials that takes place on preserving and acknowledging the value of art and talent of Filipino
Artists. More over, they are the ones who made a significant contribution to the Philippine art.

2. As a student, the characteristic and value that a Filipino should have in order to become a
National Atist of the Philippines is that it contributed to enrich the value and importance of art.
Most importantly, they were able to inspire through their sincerity and passion and educate
people like us to know the real essence of art and how it brings identity and how it represents our
country.

3.

(p.s: sorry po sir.

naubusan po kasi ako ng
pang color kaya 'di po
na-emphasize yung mga
details po sa medallion)

B.

1. It is the logo of Gawad ng Manlilikha sa Bayan or National Living Treasure Award.

2. It is used as a representation of human form used in traditional cloth.

My perception to the image: Once you first saw the image, it will surely caught your attention.
Just by looking at it, you can see features that leads you to the elements of traditional arts and
culture. It looks like the image is getting our attention, saying that we should not neglect the
importance of traditional practices and continue to foster it through generations.
WHAT HAVE I LEARNED SO FAR?

1. The Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan or the National Living Treasure Award was
institutionalized through Republic Act No. 7355.

2. The Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan is awarded to acknowledged the talent of a Filipino Artist
whose art is focused in promoting and preserving the traditional culture of his/her nation. To
Filipinos who have brought change and power to preserve and admonish the importance of
customs through their works to remind Filipinos not to forget or set aside traditional cultures.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED SO FAR?

1. The categories included in the National Living Treasures Award are: folk architecture,
maritime transport, weaving, carving, performing arts, literature, graphic and plastic arts,
ornament, textile or fiber art, pottery, and other artistic expressions of traditional culture.

2. In order to preserve the cultural tradition, it is important to pass the skills, procedures,
processes, or even materials to others, so that the importance of folk art will not vanish to the
hearts and minds of the people. Thus, it will continue to give identity and recognition to where it
originally belong.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED SO FAR?

1. There's a provision to provide the needs of the artist/s whether for basic necessities or financial
needs.

2. Like what I've said from the previous questions, as an Artists themselves, they should be the
one who will take an action first in bringing back to life the importance of traditional culture in
relation with arts. As time goes by, the world we live in, will continue to be eaten by
modernization and globalization. But for traditional artists like them, they should be the model in
preserving tradional practices at where he/she resides. Plus, he/she should develop something
new about the particular art, without neglecting where it originally came from.

REFLECT UPON

GENERALIZATION
1. Guidelines in
identifying and
recognizing a person
as a Manlilikha

a. He or she is an
inhabitant of an

indigenous/traditional cultural community anywhere in the Philippines that has preserved

indigenous customs, beliefs, rituals and tradition and/or has syncretized whatever external
elements that have influenced it.

b. He or she must have engaged in a folk art tradition that has been in existence and documented
for at least 50 years.

c. He or she must have consistently performed or produced, over a significant period, works of
superior and distinctive quality.

d. He or she must possess a mastery of tools and materials needed by the art, and must have a
established reputation in the art as master and maker of works of extraordinary technical quality.

e. He or she must have passed on and/or will pass on to the other members of the community
their skills in the folk art for which the community is traditionally known.

2. Before the world evolve in a modern environment, one nation will always have the traditional
identity within it. In relation with this award, it can help us to develop something more from it
and help our country to be known globally and for fellow filipino citizen to be one with each
other in protecting what traditionally and originally belong to us.

3. For me, it will always be the same. They deserve it. They wouldn't get any awards if they
haven't fulfilled their duties and did not work hard for it. And I think, the main purpose of this
award is to nurture the gift of talent that an individual has and to protect the traditional identity of
our country for the benefit ot its own and its people.
