Describe/Explain in your own words the design considerations enumerated for the following

building types. (Maximum of 3 sentences per consideration/bullet point)

 Eco-environmental considerations in terms of its emitted pollutants

Eco-environmental considerations and efforts are needed in expanding the extent of focus to
where the greatest ecological risks lie and how to control them. These considerations, as long
term solutions to Large-Scale Industrial pollution, includes Industry Site Selection, Proper
treatment of Industrial Waste, Source control, Recycling, Cleaning of Resources, Rebuilding
Habitats and Afforestation as buffers and Regular Environmental Impact assessments. As a
result of the increase of the harmful effects of industrial pollution, these are ways to reduce not
only human health and ecological risk, but also carbon footprints and environmental
degradation.

 Buffer zones are very essential

Buffer zones are very essential in both conserving areas of ecological importance and
addressing development objectives, between two or more others and serving to reduce the
possibility of damaging interactions between them. The zoning buffer is an attempt to solve this
ever-present problem of incompatible land uses especially in Large Scale Industry. Buffer
zones, which are crucial areas for both people and nature, aims to amplify the positive and
reduce the negative impacts of large industrial buildings on neighboring communities.

 Roadways must accommodate movement of large vehicles and equipment

The Efficient design of roadways and traffic control on-site are important factors in the
prevention of traffic accidents and an important consideration in the prevention of major
accident hazards on-site especially in Manufacturing-Large Scale Industries, which can be
extensive. Roadways should be designed to accommodate large vehicles and equipments safe
and correct immobilization in respect of pavement construction, width, radius, gradient,
clearance and visibility.

 Site zoning must be clearly established: Administrative, Production, Storage,

Prohibited, Utilities
Site zoning provides the opportunity to stimulate or slow down development in specific areas
and to ensure their complementary uses. A good zoning plan and careful siting decision can be
a mechanism for assigning overall management objectives and priorities to different areas or
zones within the site or protected area in ways that control is within the capacity of an area’s
management, which will separate user conflicts and minimize environmental disturbances. A
clearly established zones through zoning system can ensure that activities are regulated in a
sustainable level that maximizes benefits and limits negative impacts.
 Safety features must be included
Safety features in Manufacturing-Large Scale Industries are essential to avoid work-related
injuries and hazard exposures that may compromise workers’ health, safety and welfare. The
industry must be a perfect balance between operational efficiency and employee safety both in
terms of work health, safety attitudes and perceptions. In addition to advance safety features
designed, to minimize risks, it is important to have vital infrastructure equipment inspected
regularly, proper risk management procedures, appropriate safety training program, wearing
Personal Protective Equipment and pertinent lockout/tagout procedures.

 Identify primary users’ profile

Identifying the primary users’ profile is an important factor in designing a School, this
consideration aims at planning and designing spaces that align with the needs, preferences,
and behavioral responses of current and potential users, as well as with the instrumental goal
for which those spaces have been created. Promoting a higher level of design humanization in a
school environment means to take into account its spatial-physical configuration, in order to
increase the outcome in terms of both learning and wellbeing.

 Consider the 3 major components of the academe: Instruction, research, and

extension

An effective school facility design should prioritize the major components of academe in order
for it to be responsive to the changing programs of educational delivery. Considering the facets
of the three integral components, spatial requirements and relationships must be established to
accommodate the conditions of Instruction, Research, and Extension. The design of Physical
space requirements and adjacencies and special design criteria the school facility must meet
the needs of instructional delivery with respect to the 3 major components.

Lecture room size as per DepED/ CHED requirements: 7m X 9m for 40 students

The design of lecture room size as per DepEd/ CHED shall have a capacity of 1 sq. meter
floor space per student. The classroom standard shall apply to instructional portions of
laboratories and the laboratory standard shall apply to experimental areas only (exclusive
space occupied by equipment, laboaratory benches and classroom areas in the laboratories).
This design consideration is in conformity to the National Building Code and can
accommodate ample activity and movement among students throughout class time and breaks.

 Provide ample circulation facilities

Providing ample circulation facilities and circular patterns in designing schools is an important
consideration which special attention should be given to, since freedom of movement and
ample circulation patterns is significant to the process of learning and impact on both teacher
and student outcomes. This consideration, with respect to its primary facets (acoustics/noise,
air quality, lighting, temperature, and space) provides sufficiently flexible instructional space for
effective teaching to take place and the quality of ample circulation facilities is an important
predictor of teacher retention and student learning.

 Safety and security measures

Considerations regarding Safety and Security Measures is realized by adopting a
comprehensive approach to addressing school safety focusing on prevention, intervention, and
response, schools that increases the safety and security of students. School safety and security
design patterns begin with where the school is physically located, which architects must
consider factors like natural surroundings, built environments and design a safe space having
natural or built barriers to ensure users a safe and secure environment and free from hazards
both internal and external means. To enhance safety and security, a school should visibly and
distinctly give the appearance of a place of learning, even after safety and security measures
are implemented.
