4th Grade Parents! 
 
Greetings from Rydell Bands and Rydell Band Director, Sarah Wolfe! 
The time to start thinking about band is here! All incoming 5th grade students will 
have the opportunity to participate in the Rydell Band program. It is likely that you have 
experienced the Rydell Band program already: at basketball games, football games, 
playing in the pit orchestra for musicals, and many other places. We would love to have 
your student join our program! 
During the first year of band, students will learn the fundamentals of playing their 
instrument and reading music notation, as well as experience performing with their peers. 
Also in the Rydell Band program, students will learn lifelong skills such as leadership, 
teamwork, responsibility, and discipline, all while having fun! 
A great way to “dip our toe” into the Rydell Band program is at one of our 
Instrument Petting Zoo nights. At these events, students will have the opportunity to try 
out the beginning band instruments that we offer. There will also be vendors from local 
music shops present to answer any instrument purchasing questions you may have. 
Students and parents from either elementary school are encouraged to attend! More 
information to come.

Welcome to the Rydell Bands instrument petting zoo! We are excited to have you here. 
Please feel free to walk around and experience each of our beginning band instruments! 
 
You will find the following instruments here tonight:  
● Flute 
● Clarinet 
● Alto saxophone 
● French horn 
● Trumpet 
● Euphonium 
● Trombone 
● Percussion- snare drum and bells 
 
Each student will be given a score card (attached to this packet). Please fill this out as you 
go around the petting zoo to keep track of your favorite instruments! Two copies of the 
scorecard are attached: one for you to take home and one to leave for Ms. Wolfe. You will 
also find a map of the petting zoo attached.  
 
Once you are finished with the petting zoo, feel free to talk to any of the vendors about 
purchasing or renting an instrument for your student! Ms. Wolfe will also be floating 
around the room to answer questions you may have. 
 
Prior to leaving, please drop your finished score card in the box at the door. Happy 
playing!
