2016/02/14 Warning Operation (SEBU8842)

SMCS - 4203,7490 i05774978

Events
Reacting to the events and diagnostics that are provided by the system is important. When a level 2 event is
triggered, slow down the machine and reduce the load until the condition is corrected.

The system supports the following events:

Least Severe Low Pressure (Level 1)

Most Severe Low Pressure (Level 1 or Level 2)

Least Severe High Pressure (Level 1)

High Temperature (Level 2)

Least Severe High/Low Pressure Events

The least severe high/low pressure events are the first warnings of a tire that is under inflated or over inflated. When a
tire pressure changes 13% from the proper inflation pressure, the operator is informed by a pop-up message in the
Advisor/Messenger display. The pop-up message advises the operator to "Service Soon" if configured as level 1 or
"Slow Down Reduce Load" if configured as level 2. If temperature compensation is enabled, the system calculates the
proper inflation pressure of the tire. The tire pressure monitoring system mathematically calculates the amount of
pressure that is supposed to be in the tire. The calculation is based on the tires operating temperature and the
pressure setting of the tire when the tire is cold. Then the system compares this calculated value to the actual,
measured pressure value of the tire. This temperature compensation calculation enables the system to provide the
least severe high/low pressure events even when a tire is hot. If first alert temperature compensation is disabled, the
least severe pressure events use gauge pressure to throw events.

The default setting triggers the pressure deviation alert when a tire is 13% under-inflated or over-inflated. This setting
can be customized through Cat ET. The units of measure can also be customized to PSI or kPa through Cat ET or the
Advisor display. The warning levels default to level 1.

Most Severe Low Pressure Events

The most severe low-pressure events are the second warning of an under-inflated tire. Most severe low-pressure
events warn the driver when a tires pressure falls 24% below the programmed Cold Inflation Pressure (CIP) value.
These events are intended to alert the operator to a more severe low-pressure condition. The system then informs the
operator to "Slow Down Reduce Load" if configured as level 2, or "Shutdown Safetly" if configured as level 3.

Unlike the least severe high/low pressure events, the default setting for the most severe low-pressure events does not
include the temperature compensation calculation. As such, if a tires pressure falls below the default setting, the tire is
more severely under-inflated and should be addressed soon.

Like the least severe high/low pressure events, the default settings for the most severe low-pressure events can be
customized by the user. The events can also be set to be temperature compensated and configured as either level 2
or level 3 severity.

High Temperature Alert

The high temperature alert warns the driver when a tires temperature exceeds 85° C (185° F). High tire temperatures
are typically caused by under-inflation. The system will usually provide a pressure deviation alert and a critical low-
pressure alert well in advance of a high temperature alert. If triggered, the high temperature alert can be an indication
of an alternative problem such as a dragging brake or a bearing failure.
