1.0 Documentation, Certification and Performance Data

Review the manufacturer’s documentation, equipment data and specification.
1.1 Not Received
Check that all relevant instruction manuals, workshop manuals and spare parts
manuals are available in Rig Site office.
1.2
COMMENT: Not Received
2.0 Mechanical and Structural Installation Assessment
Ensure all safety risks have been identified and control measures are in place.
This may include but is not limited to JSA, correct PPE, lock out / tag out, work
2.1
permits, safety barriers etc.
Verify the accumulator unit is secured to skid, with adequate bunding to
2.2 prevent spills during maintenance.
Verify Triplex pump operation – and pressure switches are working prior to full
2.3 function test.
Check installation and setting of relief valve in Hydraulic piping – PRV set at
2.4 3335 Psi.
Verify Nitrogen pre-charge in the accumulator bottles to be
2.5 1000psi ±100psi. Reference Standard: API RP53.12.3.5
Confirm accumulator banks can be isolated in order to conduct maintenance
2.6 and also prevent complete bleed down of accumulator system.
Confirm all level switches, all gauges, manifold and annular regulators are
2.7 are working correctly.
Confirm all 3 way valve handles are installed on the Hydraulic unit functions,
Confirm all functions are correctly labelled for proper identification as to its
2.8
function.
Test all alarms audible and visual are working by simulating pressure losses,
or high and low level alarms for the Hydraulic oil. Also check for
2.9
indication on the driller’s console. Comments & Remarks
2.10 Confirm battery back supply is correctly working. No battery system.
Verify and witness a function test from Remote panels – confirm lights in
remote panels operate correctly. Cable not connected

Accumulator drawdown test.
The electric pump should cut in at not less than 90% of full working pressure
(90% of 3000 psi = 2700 psi) and cut out at full working pressure ± 100psi.
Isolate the air pumps and pump the system up to its full working pressure
using the electric primary pump only.

4.1

Bleed the system down to below 90% of full working pressure, take note at
what pressure the primary pump (electric) starts

Calculate 90% of full working pressure 2700

4.2
Primary Pump (Electric) Cuts in at: 2800

Isolate the electric pump, bleed down to below 85% of full working pressure,

ACCEPTANCE METHOD

Check that the secondary pump (air) alone will pump the system up to full
working pressure with the air supply to the pumps set at 75psi.

Put the air supply back to normal and adjust the cut out for the air pump to
cut out at not less than 90% of full working pressure and test

Calculate 90% of full working pressure of 2700

4.4 3000 psi

Secondary Pump (Air) Cuts Out at: 2700

Verify that the combined output of both primary pump (electric) and
secondary pumps (air) should be able to pump up the entire system from
zero psi to full working pressure in not more than 15 minutes.
4.5 As per API RP16D.2.2.1.3
Time To Pump To Full Working Pressure 6min.30Sec
Isolate the fully pressured up Accumulator unit from the BOP Stack and
check that the pressure does not drop for minimum of 5 minutes.
4.6
System Pressure Holds: Yes: No:
Check the BOP response time by operating each BOP Ram sets and the
Annular BOP and recording the time between operating the valve and BOP
4.7
fully closed. (Annular BOP’s smaller than 18 ¾ and all ram type BOP’s = 30
seconds max, Annular BOP’s 18 ¾ and larger = 45 seconds max)

4.8

As per API RP53.12.3.3 & API 16D.2.2.1.1

With the accumulator bottle manifold isolated use the electric pump
(primary) operate one HCR valve and close the annular preventer, &
provide minimum operating pressure within 2 minutes as per API
16D.2.2.1.3 &
4.9 API RP53.12.4.1
Closing Time Of Annular & HRC Valve:
System Pressure at 2 Minutes:
Isolate both the accumulator bottles and the primary pump (electric).
Using the secondary pump (air) only you should be able to open the HCR
choke valve and close the annular and provide minimum system
working pressure in a max of 2 minutes.
4.10 Closing Time Of Annular & HRC Valve:
System Pressure at 2 Minutes:

Verify that the accumulator bottle set has enough fluid to close the annular
BOP and all ram type BOP’s (from fully open to fully closed) and open one
HCR valve against zero well bore pressure, after which there should be not
less than 200psi above the nitrogen pre-charge pressure as per API

BOP Control System Siren/Flashing Alarm Status
Present status of the RNB 2 rig BOP Siren Alarm is as follows:-
There are light indications and siren alarm for the system condition list below.
Low accumulate pressure
Low system air supply pressure Low
Level of oil tank
When any one of the system alarm condition occurs, the BOP system will active alarm siren
(audible alarm) with red blinking light and amber light indication (visual alarm). These alarm
devices are located at the Bop System JB.
When the acknowledge button is press, the alarm siren and flashing light will be deactivate and
5.1 silenced. The amber light indication will remain activated until the alarm status of the system is back
to normal.
At this point, when another system alarm condition occurs, only the amber light indication will be
activated. The alarm siren and blinking red light will NOT be activated. There is no audible and
visual alarm alerting rig personnel from a distance.
According to the BOP system manufacturer, to reactivate the siren and flashing light alarm, the
system JB will have to be reset by recycling the power supply (ON/OFF switch).
This is not an advisable practice and will create greater potential of the BOP system without any
audible or visual alarm that can be seen and heard from a distance.
Please not that the BOP system alarms are not linked to the Drilling control system. It is a
standalone system.
5.2 4.6 to 4.11, will carry out in Rig location.
