Part A: Medical Physics (Theory)

1. Write a short note on the physics of cardiovascular system.

2. How speech is produced in the body and ear receives the speech?

3. Describe how nervous system processes electrical signals?

4. Write a short note on production of X-ray.

5. Compare Compton effect with Photoelectric effect.


6. Explain the working principle of Scintillation counter.

7. Write short note onionization chamber.

8. Write a short note Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and NMR imaging.

9. Critically comment onprinciple and function of Computed Tomography scanner.

10. Critically comment on principle and function of image guided radiotherapy.

11. Explain the working principle of Gamma camera.

12. Write short note on Single photon and positron emission tomography.

Part B: Medical Physics (Practical)

1. Write down the working principle and theory of a manual Hg blood pressure apparatus.

2. Explain the methodology of eye testing procedure using manual optical eye testing machine.

3. Explain the procedure of correction of myopia (short sightedness) using a combination of lenses
on an optical bench/breadboard.

4. Explain the methodology of Hypermetropia correction using a combination of lenses on an optical


bench/breadboard.

5. Describe the working principle of Geiger-Muller (GM) Counter.

6. Write down the working principle and theory of a radiation meter to measure background radiation.

7. Explain the working of Thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) badges.

8. Explain the procedure of measurement of background radiation through radiation meter.

9. Write down the working principle and methodology of vascular Doppler.


Part A: Nano Materials and Applications (Theory)

1. “Bottom-up technique is more convenient for nano-fabrication” – Explain.

2. Write a Short Note on sol-gel synthesis of nanomaterials.

3. State the merits and demerits of solution –based nano-fabrication techniques.

4. Discuss the quantum confinement effect in nanostructured materials.

5. Explain the basic working principle of e-beam evaporation process.

6. What is thin-film? Mention few of its applications.

7. What are the basic chemical reactions involved in CVD process? Give some examples

8. Discuss with suitable schematic diagram the basic principle of photoluminescence spectroscopy.

9. Describe briefly the working principle of TEM.

10. Discuss the basic principle of pulsed laser deposition with a schematic of the equipment.

11. Describe, in brief, various emission and interaction processes between electron beam and the
sample.

12. Discuss how X-ray diffraction can be used to study the structure of materials.

Part B: Nano Materials and Applications (Practical)

1. Explain the procedure of sol-gel synthesis of semiconductor nanoparticles.

2. Explain the procedure of chemical synthesis of metal nanoparticles.

3. Explain how you can determine the crystallite size of a material from its X-ray diffraction pattern/
data.

4. Write the basic principle of UV-visible spectroscopy with proper sketch.

5. Explain the method to determine the band gap of a direct band gap semiconductor from its
UV-visible spectrum.

6. Explain any synthesis procedure in ‘bottom-up’ approach for nanoparticles.


7. Explain the procedure of chemical synthesis of any noble metal nanoparticles.

8. Explain the procedure to prepare composite of Carbon Nanotubes with other materials.

9. Discuss the method of thin film preparation of nanomaterial by spin-coating technique.

10. You are given an X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of a crystalline material. (i) Explain-how will
you decide whether it is single crystalline or polycrystalline material and (ii) Explain the procedure
of indexing the XRD pattern

11. What do you mean by quantum dot? Describe the thermal evaporation technique to prepare it.

12. Explain one method of ‘top-down’ approach to prepare nanoparticles.


Part A: Communication Electronics (Theory)

1. What is the necessity of modulation?

2. Draw the circuit diagram of simple diode detector and explain its operation to detect audio
signal from AM signal.

3. How are the shortcomings of a straight forward AM radio receiver eliminated in a superheterodyne
radio receiver? Show the basic blocks of a superheterodyne receiver and explain the function of
each block. Why is the superhet receiver so named?

4. What are the practical difficulties in AM broadcast? How are they removed in FM? Show the
basic blocks of an FM receiver and briefly explain the action.

5. What do you mean pulse amplitude modulation? State and explain Sampling theorem for analog
pulse modulation.

6. What is pulse width modulation? What other names does it have? How is it demodulated?

7. Explain the term sampling and quantizing in pulse code modulation. Derive an expression for
SNR for linear quantization.

8. What do you mean by time division multiplexing? Draw a block diagram of a TDM system and
explain the function of each block.

9. Explain with diagrams the working of cellular telephone system. What is cell sectoring and cell
splitting?

10. Write down the advantages and disadvantages of geosynchronous satellites.

11. What access method is used with LTE? How does it work?

12. What is the basic function and purpose of a communication satellite? Why are satellite used
instead of standard earthbound radio?
Part B Communication Electronics (Practical)

1. Explain the experimental procedure for designing an amplitude modulator using transistor.

2. Build simple FM demodulator by using Frequency discriminator. Draw its inputs and output
waveforms.

3. Write down theory to design an amplitude modulator using transistor with necessary circuit
diagram.

4. Write down working principle to study envelope detector for demodulation of AM signal with
necessary circuit diagram.

5. Write down working principle to study FM generator with necessary circuit diagram.

6. Explain the procedure to study AM transmitter and receiver.

7. Explain the procedure to study FM transmitter and receiver.

8. Write down theory to study Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).

9. Write down theory to study Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM).

10. Explain the methodology to study Pulse Position Modulation (PPM).

11. Explain the experimental procedure to study ASK, PSK and FSK modulators.

12. Write down the experimental procedure for Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).
