MODULE NO. 7
Title : Steps in Hypothesis Testing

1. Stating H0 and HA or H 1 – Based on your sign in you HA using samples

2. Specifying α level
3. Identifying the test Statistic to be used based from the given In the
problem.
4. Computing for the test statistic.
5. Finding the critical values or tabular values. Use table for your test
statistic.
6. Separating Region of Rejection (RR) and Acceptance Region (AR)
using α ; Type of Tests
7. Locating your computed value in the Rejection Region (RR).
8. Making your statistical Decision based on where your critical value
falls.
9. Stating Conclusion

Overview

Hypothesis testing was introduced by Sir. Ronald Fisher, Jerzy

Newman, Karl Pearson and Egon Pearson (Karl Pearson’s son). Hypothesis
Testing is a statistical method that is used in making statistical decisions using
experimental data. Hypothesis testing is basically an assumption that we make
about the population parameter. There are three methods, hypothesis testing by
traditional method, by p-value method, or by confidence interval method.

The traditional method will be discussed in this module.

All students will be required to complete all activities/exercises to

practice, assessment and comprehensive exam that assesses the learning of
all course objectives. This must be weighted in a manner so that all of these
requirements worth a minimum of

 Quizzes 20%
 Class activities/exercises 20%
 Assignment and Project 15%
 Attendance/Deportment 10%
 Major Examination 35%

General Course Requirements:

Even we are on online classes, you have to :

1. Please keep all your work (assignments, quizzes etc.) for Portfolio
requirements at the end of the semester.
2. Make sure to put your Last Name, First Name Class Section, Time
Schedule, Day Schedule and Date on all activities and
assignments.
3. Make sure if we have face to face during online classes your
camera in ON.

Learning Outcomes

1. Enumerate the steps in hypothesis Testing

2. Make inferences (conclusions, generalizations) about parameter of a
population on the basis of sample which is done through hypothesis
testing.

1. State H0 and HA or H 1 .
2. Specify α level (Type 1 Error Always)
3. Identify the test Statistic to be used based from the given In the
problem. (Identify the appropriate test)
4. Computation of the test statistic.
5. Find the critical values or tabular values of your test statistic. Use table
for your test statistic.
6. Separate Region of Rejection (RR) and Acceptance Region (AR)
using α ; Type of Tests
7. Locate your computed value in the Rejection Region (RR).
8. Make your statistical Decision based on where your critical value falls.
9. State your conclusion.
NOTE:
If it is one tailed test.
Base your location of your Rejection Region (RR) depending on your
Test statistic value − to the left + to the right.

If I is a two-tailed test base your location of the Region of Rejection (RR)

on the sign of Test Statistic value. Both tails.

DECISION:

If test statistic value falls in your Region of Rejection (RR) (Reject H0 )

If test statistic value falls in your Acceptance Region (AR) (Fail to reject
(or accept H0)
