INTRODUCTION
1. a. Reports have been received from the User that the Antenna Adaptor
has a tendency to rattle, to overcome this a spindle and wing nuts is
introduced to clamp the adaptor.
b. During production it was found that the adaptor failed to hold the
antenna after repeated inserts. To overcome this the helical spring
was replaced by two standard circlips. This was not totally
successful so a third circlip was added and the adaptor shaft drilled.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 During audit testing of the UK/RT 320, it was found that the ATU drive
mechanism rotated under vibration. The current build of UK/RT 320 had no
lock on the ATU tuning mechanism and, if the unit was subjected to shock
or vibration, it was likely to detune. To overcome this problem, a disk
brake and shaft was designed as a direct replacement for the Gear and
Shaft Assembly, Spur.

1.1 During production of Panel, Electronic Circuit (Board 6b, 5820-99-
622-7508) it has been found that it failed test in respect of a.g.c.
parameters.
\
1.2 Investigation revealed that the a.g.c. device was level conscious,
and that the fault could be overcome by the addition of a 68 B resistor
which reduces the charge on capacitor C2 during the 25 ms pulse period,
thus enabling the device to restore the a.g.c. level in a shorter time.

fed through the hole in the lug of Centre Junction Dipole Z1/5820-99-117-
7439 as prescribed in User Handbook, Army Code No. 61123, Chap 2, Para

discard the wire.
9.2 Feed the unterminated end of the Antenna Wire Assembly (SD2/269237PD)
provisioned through the hole vacated at Sub-para 9.1 and tie a figure of
eight "stopper" knot near the end of the wire so that the unterminated end
protruding from the knot does not exceed l+ inches (see Fig 1).
9.3 Wind the antenna wire nearly onto the former, ensuring that the large
plastic markers, at the first six 1 metre points from the terminated end,
lie flat against the windings.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Information has been received from the Service User that the l/4
metre markers introduced by Mod Instr No. 17 could be confused with the 1
and 5 metre markers in poor light conditions.
1.2 To overcome the problem each of the first six 1 metre points, where
greater accuracy of antenna length is essential, is to be identified by an
additional marker. The new markers, which are to be fitted in addition to
the existing 'tied' markers, are large and thus easily distinguishable
and, being plastic, can be easily fitted, removed or adjusted even when
arctic gloves are worn. These markers will enable the desired whole
number of metres to be identified from which the intervening 4 metre
markers can be counted.
1.3 The adjustable nature of the new markers will also give the User the
option, if desired, of identifying predetermined antenna lengths which can
be set up prior to the start of an exercise or operation.
1.4 This instruction details the action required to carry out the
modification.

1.1 During production testing it was reported that there was a high
failure rate of Transistor 5961-99-653-7021 used in the TRl circuit
reference on Panel Electronic Circuit (5a) and Panel Electronic Circuit
(5b).
1.2 Investigation revealed that TRl, which provides switching regulator
drive, was not driven into saturation or biased off during initial 'power
up' of the circuit.
1.3 To obviate the problem a 47 ohm resistor fitted between the base of TRl
and TR2 emitter significantly improved the transient response in all cases.

1 .I The transistor zT89 used at circuit position TR3 on board 5b of the Power
Supply Unit is obsolete.
1.2 On failure, the ZT89 transistor will be replaced by transistor type BS 107. To
make this item compatible with the existing circuit Resistor R6 has been changed
from 82k to IOOk. Also, an additional Capacitor (100 nF) has to be fitted between
R6 and Transformer Tl .
1.3 This modification will be embodied in future production and on failure of ZT89
transistor at Base Level. This Abridged Modification Instruction is for information
