QUESTION: WITH RESPECT TO MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION, MERITS AND DEMERITS, DISCUSS DOORS
AND WINDOW IRONMONGERY CLEARLY STATING WHERE EACH TYPE IS USED.

DOORS; Just for understanding ,doors are a moving mechanism which is more like a barrier made of
wood ,stone, metal, glass, paper, leaves, hides, or a combination of materials. They are largely defined
by the materials they are made from, also door classification varies due to the mechanism and usage.
Considering mechanism and usage : Sliding doors, composite doors, swinging doors, revolving doors
folding doors.

REVOLVING DOORS; These doors are only used provided or used in public buildings like museums,
banks, libraries, e.t.c because of constant visitors , it consists mullion at its center to which four
radiating shutters are attached.

SLIDING DOORS; In this type, with the help of runners and guide rails the door sides to the sides. The
door may have one or more sliding shutter depending up on the opening available.

COLLAPSIBLE STEELDOORS; These doors generally are used in workshops, sheds, warehouses etc…It acts
like a steel curtain which will be opened or closed by horizontal pull or push.

ROLLING STEEL SHUTTER DOORS; These ones are commonly used for warehouses, garages, shops etc
..These ones are very strong and offer proper safety to the property. The door consists frame, drum, and
a shutter of thin plate inter locked together.

BATTENED AND LEDGED DOORS; There are the simplest form of doors and are in use since ages. They
consists of vertical wooden battens of the height of the door with about 35 mm thicknesses which are
usually tongue and groove jointed. They can be braced or braced and framed to provide rigidity and
better appearance. Such doors are commonly adopted, baths etc and also in houses where economy is
of prime consideration.

FLUSH DOORS; A flush door is a completely smooth door, having plywood or medium density fibreboard
fixed over timber frame which is comparatively light. The hollow core so obtained is often filled with
with a cardboard core material. They are commonly employed in the interior of a dwelling, although
with some variations they are also used as exterior doors in houses.They are commonly provided in
houses for pleasing appearance, durability etc

PVC DOORS; Is a common term for the product called poly vinyl chloride. It is basically a plastic material
commonly used for making various products including water tanks, pipes, fittings for houses. They are
commonly used inside the house because they are very light in weight,not weather proof like wooden or
metal doors.
