II. Program Background and Rationale

Rationale
Classrooms are full of diverse learners in this second decade of the 21 st century,
both culturally and linguistically (Gregory and Chapman, 2013). Diversity is common
in every classroom, and in each room, there are distinctive perspectives and
characteristics of young individuals ready and willing to learn, and teaching diverse
students is always a great challenge to every educator.

Each learner is unique and brings the learning situation his/her own different
learning style, knowledge set, pool of past experiences, and motivation. In learner-
centered instruction, it is important for instructors to consider the level of knowledge
and skill development attained by the learner’s prior instruction (Dick, Carey, and
Carey, 2004). The best way to get this information is by asking the learners
themselves. To determine the readiness of the participants for learning, the instructor
or facilitator should decide, prior to the first class or workshop, how to collect and use
data on learner needs.

One of the results of the teachers’ Electronic Self-Assessment Tool in Don Gerardo
Ll. Ouano Memorial National High School is the need to help the teachers’ low rating
in implementing Differentiated Instruction. Thus, a Learning Action Cell for this
specific topic is being prepared.

III. Program Description

This is a one-day virtual orientation workshop on the Learning Action Cell (LAC)
for Differentiated Instruction. The modality to be used is the online platform (Google
Meet). This shall be conducted on February 26, 2021. The target participants for this
undertaking are the English, Filipino and SHS teachers of Don Gerardo Ll. Ouano
Memorial National High School

IV. Target Learners’ Description

The target participants for this undertaking are the 39 English, Filipino and SHS
teachers of Don Gerardo Ll. Ouano Memorial National High School.

V. Workplace Development Objectives (WDO)

 Impact: Improved quality of teachers and share/use teaching strategies that


would be beneficial to the diverse students
 Organizational outcome: To apply differentiated instructions in every class to
meet the varied needs of the students today
 Outputs: Lesson plan with teaching strategies for diverse students
 Competencies: Developing a lesson plan to meet the needs of diverse students

The Program aims to:


a. Design lessons based on students’ learning styles and needs;
b. Discuss the importance of having differentiated instruction; and
