○ Dwight David Eisenhower

● Lifespan
○ October 14, 1890 - March 28, 1969

● Early Family Background and Created Family Structure


○ Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas to Jacob and Ida Eisenhower
○ He was the third of seven sons
○ His family moved from Abilene, Kansas to Denison, Texas before he was born
○ In Texas they lived in a small house near the railroad tracks and his father cleaned
engines
○ Then the family moved back to Abilene so that his father could take a better job at
a creamery
○ Eisenhower’s brother died of diphtheria died at only 10-months old
○ Eisenhower enjoyed playing baseball and football when attending Abilene High
School
○ He started working at the creamery and also as a fireman to pay for his younger
brother’s college education. They had a deal to switch places after two years.
○ Eisenhower however ended up at West Point Military Academy where attendance
was free and continued to play football.
