Tongue and Groove Pliers


Also known as: Channel Locks / Water-Pump Pliers

This grouping of pliers features several variations on a theme. These are a adjustable type of
plier with a toothed groove along the upper handle. Allowing the lower jaw to be locked in
several positions. The angled jaws make this tool useful for turning nuts and bolts and into
awkward spaces is easier. These tools are designed for gripping pipes

The popular company - Channellock - officially changed its name to match this tool in 1963,
which has been their most famous product line since the name was trademarked by the
company in 1949.

 Jaws – This is your pliers’ working end and they are used mostly for gripping.
 Fulcrum (pivot point) – This is where the handles come together to create the force
needed for the plier jaws to do their job.
 Pipe Grips – This is an opening in the jaw that is oval to round and are made to grip
pipes and other round objects.
 Handles – This is what you hold on to. Their surface can be plastic coated or bare metal.

These can grip a wide variety of shapes and the long handles can give a tremendous amount
of leverage. These can be the perfect tool to get you out of a tight spot.
