Week 2
Draw a Project Team Organization Structure of a project team implementing a complete
infrastructure and retail customer service software implementation program for a
multinational FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) Organization. Ensure that all internal
stakeholders within the team are highlighted as well as external stakeholders including
steering committee, change approval board etc.

Week 3
Scope Management You are asked to implement network and infrastructure for a FMCG (Fast
Moving Consumer Goods) organization like Woolworths as well as replace the legacy (old
software) with new software programs. To this purpose, you are asked to train all the
100,000 employees via train-the-trainer program. Some retail centres have old and new
technology devices. Identify 5 scope items, 5 out-of-scope items, 5 constraints and 5
assumptions for this program

Scope items Out of scope items constraints

Assumptions:
The project always doesn’t go as planned. We make lots of assumptions such as deadlines and
outcomes but in some cases different factors might affect the project and hence proving out
assumptions false. In those examples some can be opening day or stock managements for the
shop etc.

Week 4
Su40765 TUTORIAL 2-5

Time Management FMCG program’s training team has come up with the following arrow-on-
activity diagram. Identify the critical path for their team’s activities and the slack time for
activities not on critical path. A = 1 week; B = 2 weeks; C = 3 weeks; D = 4 weeks; E = 10
weeks; F = 18 weeks; G = 3 weeks; H = 2 weeks; I = 30 weeks; J = 5 weeks; K = 2 weeks; L = 3
weeks; M = 2 weeks; N = 8 weeks; O=3 weeks

Weekly activities time:

A+E+L+Q+R=1+10+3+4+2=20
A+F+M+O+R=1+18+2+3+2=26
B+I+M+O+R=2+4+2+3+2=13
C+G+I+M+O+R=3+3+4+2+3+2=17
C+H+J+M+O+R=3+2+5+2+3+2=17
C+H+K+N+O+R=3+2+2+8+5+2=19
Su40765 TUTORIAL 2-5

C+H+K+P+R=3+2+2+5+2=14
D+S+T=30+4+7=41
The critical path is the longest path through the network diagram.
In the diagram path 8, D-S-T-R = 41days, so it is the critical path.
Slack time: In this diagram, L can’t be started without B and C-G completed. B need to finish 2
days and C-G need to be finish 6 days. B must be delay 4 days to start L.
M can’t be started without A-F, B-I, C-G-I, and C-H-J need to be completed. A-F need to finish19
days, B-I=6, C-G-I= 10, C-H-J= 10 days. B-I has slack of days 13, C-G-I and C-H-J has slack of 9
days.

Week 5 Cost Management

FMCG program’s program manager has reported the following BAC, EAC information.
Highlight the reasons/possibilities why the BAC/EAC could be as per chart below.
Point of Time 2 months 4 months 6 months 8 months 10 months
BAC 100,000 100,000 100,000 120,000 135,000
EAC 60,000 120,000 150,000 150,000 140,000
This project’s Budget at Completion 100,000 for 2 months and this 2-month work done more
used less money Estimate of completion 60,000. In 4 months, BAC same 100,000 but work done
less and its cost more money EAC 120,000. After 6 months, they already work done 100,000
and requirement did not fill-up then EAC increase 30,000. On the other hand, after 8 months
BAC increase to 120,000 and EAC work done 150,000. After 10 months work done more used
less money.
