THE SUMMARY OF THE RAID MOVIE

A rookie member of an elite team of commandos, Rama (Iko Uwais) is instructed

to hang back while his comrades-in-arms go ahead with their mission to take
down a brutal crime lord called Tama (Ray Sahetapy). However, the team’s cover
is blown, and Tama offers sanctuary to every criminal in his high-rise apartment
block in exchange for the cops’ heads. Now Rama must take command and lead
his remaining team on an ultraviolent charge through the building to complete –
and survive the mission.
The storyline is straightforward, as befits a movie that doesn’t want to spend
much time getting bogged down with deep character development or exposition.
Our hero, Rama (Iko Uwais), is a rookie cop who ends up on an unenviable
mission: raid a fifteen-story apartment building that doubles as the fortress of
crime lord Tama (Ray Sahetapy), the most notorious gangster in all of Indonesia.
Rival gangs have attempted to get to Tama and failed, in part because he is
protected by two fearsome bodyguards, Andi (Doni Alamsyah) and Mad Dog
(Yayan Ruhian), and in part because just about everyone living in the building is a
criminal of some kind and it’s in their best interests to keep Tama safe. Some
tenants have guns, others have machetes. Also, inexplicably, there’s one nice
guy living there with a sick wife. He doesn’t have knives, but he does confess to
owning a spoon. The 20 cops engaging in the raid almost immediately find
themselves outnumbered and outgunned. They stumble into the midst of a
massacre and soon there are only a few of them left, including the grizzled
veteran Jaka (Joe Taslim) and Rama. Jaka is straightforward but Rama has a
secret: Andi, one of Tama’s right-hand men, is his brother.
Bodies on both sides of battle fall to the ground like rounds from a Gatling gun in
an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. The police – those that survived the opening
shootout – are split into two groups with Jaka (Joe Taslim) fighting alongside the
Lieutenant and a rookie officer, and Rama (Iko Uwais) who tries to protect an
injured officer while battling the hordes of oncoming baddies.

In the beginning of the movie, Tama executes five unnamed criminals

while his two right-hand men, Mad Dog and Andi, are watching. Later
on the same day, he finds out that a 20-man police squad has invaded
the complex. Surprisingly, he reveals he knew that they would come at
some point and tells Mad Dog and Andi that their lieteunant, Wahyu, is
a corrupt officer and that they have history together. Tama is also
aware that no back-up forces are coming to save the officers. Through
the PA systems, Tama announces that for every police his vassals kill
they will be rewarded with a free room from the complex. Soon after
the slaughter begins, and almost every officer excluding a few, dies.
One of Tama’s surveillance cameras blacks out, and he sends Mad Dog
and Andi to cover the damages and kill the remaining officers.

After the defeat of officer Jaka, and Andi and Rama’s reunion, Tama

finds out through his cameras that Andi has betrayed him by lying to
Tama. Tama then gives Mad Dog the order to kill Andi.

At the end of the raid, Tama hears gun shots near his office. He is then
greeted by Wahyu and his henchman Dagu, who handcuffs Tama.
Wahyu, afraid of Tama revealing the lieteunant’s true intentions,
executes Dagu and commands Tama to get him out of the apartment.

Wahyu takes Tama hostage and tries to kill Rama in the process, until
Tama reveals that he knew about the order that was given by Wahyu’s
supervisor Reza. Tama has been working with Reza and been paying
him and his men enough money to keep them satisfied. Tama tells that
Wahyu was sent to the complex to die sooner or later.
