FORMULA:
CUBIC FEET OF WATER = GALLONS OF WATER / 7.5
CUBIC FEET OF WATER = 15 000 / 7.5 = 2000 CUBIC FEET
CUBIC FEET OF WATER = 2 000 ft³
FORMULA:
WEIGHT OF WATER IN POUNDS = CUBIC FEET OF WATER x 62.4
W = V x 62.4
W = 2000 x 62.4
W = 124 800 lbs.
H = 15 ft.
Computation: r = √ (v/H )
= √(2000/15x )
= 6.514 ft.
FORMULA
D = 2r
D = diameter
Computation: D = 2 x 6.514
D = 13.028
FIGURE:
FORMULA:
M=DxV
M = Mass of fluid
D = Mass density
V = Volume of the Tank
Computation: A = (6.514)
A = 20.464 ft
ITEM # 9 : GAUGE PRESSURE OF THE TANK:
PGAUGE = W / A
W = Weight of tank
A = Cross – Sectional Area of the Tank
Calculation: PGAUGE = W / A
PGAUGE = 124 800 / 20.414
PGAUGE = 6098.414lb/ft²
FORMULA
SL (4 x PGAUGE )
Calculation : SL = 4 x 6098.44
SL = 24 393.659 lb/ft²
FORMULA:
PAB = PATM + PGAUGE
PAB = ABSOLUTE PRESSURE
PATM = ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE
PGAUGE = GAUGE PRESSURE
Note:
d. Other accessories.
Calculation:
V= r^2H
-least amount of material to be used
for an open top cylindrical tank
D=H
Since our design of water tank with
D=15.04ft and H=15ft
D is approximate to H then our material is in
minimum materials.
MATERIALS
The materials, design, fabrication, and erection of the bolted steel tank shall
conform to AWWA D103-97, to the Principle of Standard Specification 12B of the
American Petrolium Institute, or to Columbian’s specifications which are derived
from engineering principles, industry experiences, and the aforementioned
standards and specifications.
A. STEEL
Steel sheets shall conform to or shall be at least equal to hot-
rolled quality per ASTMA570 Grade 33 with minimum yield strength
of 33000psi. Minimum thickness shall be 12gauge(0.0972”
minimum).
B. PLATES
Steel plates shall conform to or at least be equal to the
requirements of ASTM A36 with minimum yield strength of
36000psi.
C. ROLLED STRUCTURAL SHAPES
Rolled structural shapes shall conform to ASTM A36.
