By 1990 America was entering another recession,
a war in the gulf, and uncertainty of the new century that was about to befall on them. Amongst all of this melancholy, their seemed to be a more abstract coping mechanism for the youth, music.
Grunge was digestible, minimalistic, and relatable,
there wasn’t complex apregios, or jaw dropping solos. Nevermind’s top song was only five power chords. smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana’s first single off their second album Nevermind, Peaked at #1 on billboard, and stayed there for 20 weeks
Nevermind also sold 30 million copies, making it
one of the best selling albums of all time, it also knocked Michael Jackson’s Dangerous off number one
By 1993 Nirvana was the biggest band in America,
with nevermind their magnum opus. It is in this year where I believe 80s sound fully “Died” Guns N Roses broke up, Warrant lost their record label, Motley Crue went on hiatus
