I. TIME OF THE YEAR MOST SEEN: All year round.

II. DESCRIPTION

A. PHYSICAL FEATURES:

• The body measures 23-24 centimetre and weighs 82-158 grams.


• The hind neck on the back, wings and tail are pale gray, and the folded wings have black
mettalic patches. There are two black bands on the back. The forehead, crown of head and
scarlet are bluish gray, and faded white on face. The lower part of the body is pinkish, with
white on the abdomen. The beak is usually black and the sound of it was heard hoot hootho-
tu-tu-tutot. The male may be the same, but the young are larger than the adults, with a dull
gray below, and a few winged speckles.
• This specie likes to eat fruits and berries including peppers and ranges in most Philippine
islands except the Palawan island group.

III. STORIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE ANIMAL

Based on the testimony of our informant named Jose B, Saraspe who lives in Barangay
Tagabase, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur “Alimukon” knows and sense if there is something bad will
happen in there barangay and also give sign or warning if pitiable event may occur through their
sound. The “Alimukon” had different variation of sounds. According to the Datu’s, the moment you
step out to your house and when you hear the sound of “kuto-kuto-kroooooo” meaning there’s
something unfortunate will happen to you, in order to prevent this warning you have to stay for a
while, mean it, do not take risk because when you ignore it bad luck is coming to you. Another sign
also, when there are visitors coming, you will hear the sound “engrooong-engrooong-engrooong” but
most of the time “Alimukon” serves as the clock for the people in the community every hour.

Jose B. Seraspe has been taking care “Alimukon” for two (2) years until now. According to
him, it is very important to them because they no longer have a problem if ever they will run out of
viand, they’ll cook “Alimukon”, and they can sell it too if someone buys.

Scientific

`Alimokon can be a subject for behavioural ecology test since it has the ability to warn people
for some reasons.

Aesthetic

It has this hind neck on the back, wings and tail which is pale gray, and the folded wings have black
metallic patches. There are two black bands on the back. The forehead, crown of head and scarlet are
bluish gray, and faded white on face. The lower part of the body is pinkish, with white on the
abdomen. The beak is usually black and the sound of it was heard hoot hootho-tu-tu-tutot.

Socioeconomic

Sold as pair for only 1,000 male and female fix including the cage, firm and very cheap and
affordable. Can be sold also for food business with delicacies of adobo, roasted, and bird soup.

V. CONSERVATION

Not threatened – It is still considered common on most islands throughout its range, regularly found
among particular people or in a certain place.

B. CONSTRAINTS/THREATS/ISSUES:

• Can be stolen if not taken care of or guarded properly


• Deforestation and Bio- Degradation – cutting of trees for commercial wood
production.
• Commercial hunting / Subsistence hunting – for food business.
• Land conversion

C. CONSERVATION MEASURES: (Describe the conservation measures taken at the level of the
community, provincial and/or national)

There is already existing Environmental Protection like ”Dangerous Wild Animals Act”
prohibiting individual for hunting of wild animals.
