ACTIVITY 2

1. How do you define values?

Values may vary in two different aspects like, “values” the worth of something,
and “values” by which a person possess correlated to right conduct.

2. Write at least 10 values that you possess and rank them according to what you
think is important to you.
Faith in God
Trustworthy
Loyal
Friendly
Helpful
Polite
Caring
Obedient
Thrifty
Cheerful
Valiant

3. Do you agree that using “po” and “opo” and kissing the hands of our parents are
signs of respect and therefore should be preserved? Why? Explain briefly but
concisely.

I slightly agree that using “po” and “opo” and kissing the hands especially on
elders are signs of respect in the Filipino tradition, but for me acting polite is not the true
sign of respect. There are some people using “po” and “opo” in talking to elders but they
don’t even mean to give some respect. Personally speaking, I don’t use “po” and “opo”
neither kissing the hands of my parents to show some respect. I am showing my love
and respect by making them feel that I adore them as my parents and being a good son
to them and for me that is more important than anything. Preserving the use of “po” and
“opo” kissing the hands of parents are depending on different families. If they grew
practicing these ways of showing respect, they should continue as they like.
4. Do you believe in the saying that “kung ano ang puno ay siyang bunga?” Explain.

No. Because all people are unique, we all have different perceptions in life, even
you are related in blood it doesn’t mean that you’re all the same. In the parent and child
relationship, if the parent is in the good and successful track, it wasn’t their child’s duty
to follow their footsteps because every child has their own right to choose the track
whatever they wanted. The really important thing is not that connection, but recognizing
your own flesh and blood.

5. Explain “Values are caught and not taught.”

Values are caught and not taught because there are some factors
affecting a person’s values, like their environment and the people they grew up
with. These factors affect a person’s perception and values in life because
starting from a child this environment will mold a person’s nature. The values
gained will depend on the values caught on his surroundings.
