Spirituality of Order of Saint Augustine, Franciscans, Benedictines and August Recollects

Spirituality of Saint Augustine -The spirituality of the Order of St. Augustine has been influenced by the
Rule of St. Augustine, the mendicant spirituality and the men from many communities who joined in
1244 and 1256. Augustinian spirituality is to be lived according to the time, place, and culture and in
harmony with the charism of the order. Rule of St. Augustine.

Spirituality of Franciscans - Franciscan spirituality is primarily focused on Christ’s Incarnation, His

Passion, and His Presence in the Eucharist. For secular Franciscans, Jesus is the inspiration and center of
our life with God and with people. He is the way to the Father, and the truth into which the Holy Spirit
leads us

Spirituality of Benedictines-Benedictine Spirituality The monks are models of Catholic culture as they
have formed a complete way of life centered on the faith. Benedictines, following their founder St.
Benedict (d. 547), dedicate their lives to prayer and work and seek economic self-sufficiency, practicing
and perfecting the servile arts.

Spirituality of August Recollects- The spiritual legacy associated with Augustine of Hippo can be
considered from a twofold perspective: the actual thought and teaching of St. Augustine, and
subsequent traditions of spirituality associated with and based upon the figure and thought of
Augustine. The saint himself represents an approach to what will subsequently be called spirituality that
is thematic rather than systematic. Subsequent traditions associated with Augustine will highlight,
emphasize, and accordingly systematize aspects of his spirituality.
