Question three

What mental models do you have when you want to join UiTM lecture? Are these mental
models very helpful? Could any of these mental models hold you back from achieving the
full benefit of the lecture? (15
marks)

Mental models are knowledge structures that we develop to describe, explain, and
predict the world around us. They consist of visual or relational images in our minds. The
mental model that I have when joining the lecture is how the lecture is conduct, what happens
if I submit an assignment late, and how the group is divide. As a student, when want to join
UITM lecture, I have a sense of feeling and mental models of attending class lecture,
including assumptions and expectations about instructor and students arrange themselves in
the class, how they ask and answer the questions and so forth. Next, the mental model that I
have from attending a university lecture is I need to have the interest to participate in the
lecture for all subjects. By having an interest in the lecture, I will improve my understanding
of the lecture for every class throughout the semester without skipping the class and
preparing by reading up on the new topic for the following discussion. Suppose I absent from
any course for the subjects that I took in my current semester. In that case, I might fail to
understand the topic discussed in class and cannot grasp the intended information derived
from the particular lesson. My personal belief that without attending a class or lesson by my
lecturer, I will not fully understand the topic and will not increase my knowledge due to not
writing any notes and practicing after class. Having a propensity towards learning is also one
of the mental models that I have to attend the lecture and may have the capacity to pay
attention over the lecture. As a student, when want to join UITM lecture, I have a sense of
feeling and mental models of attending class lecture, including assumptions and expectations
about instructor and students arrange themselves in the class, how they ask and answer the
questions and so forth.

These mental models very helpful because it helps me create a mental image of a
class in progress by having an assumption and expectations towards the lecture. It also gives
visual and relational image in our mind so that we will predict what will happen if we did not
aware with our own responsibility. It can also help organize my thinking more consistently
with how expert problem solvers managed their knowledge. Having an interest and following
every topic discussion in the lecture will allow me to better understand and comprehend in
the lecture class. In addition, the mental models help me make sense of the environment and
recognize the opportunities and deficiencies in the solution that I made, such as focusing and
hearing the lectures. It will enhance my critical thinking skill and problem-solving skills and
minimize my mistake during tutorial class.

The mental models will not hold me back from achieving the full benefit of the
lecture because they will help me achieve my goals striving for an excellent result for every
semester. Having good grades in the examination consistently makes a student always have
an interpretation by others that the student will succeed and get a great job in the future. This
will motivate students to their good performance in the examination and pursue their dreams.
Furthermore, the mental models that I have will motivate me to communicate well with
lecturers and perform a good team with my classmates during the presentation in the lecture.
Despite the mental models that can also block my recognition of new opportunities, such as
not focusing well in the class, which the lecture's outcome will give us the golden opportunity
to gain knowledge. Still, it will not hold me back from achieving the full benefit of the class.
Lastly, the mental model helps me understand the purpose of attending a university lecture
and allows me to make decisions and solve problems.
