1. INTRODUCTION

This report is an analysis of a 2-dimensional frame using the software ANSYS

AND MATLAB and the results are outlined by considering the boundary
condition. This structure compromises of beams and columns and the nodes are
numbered in white color, which are subjected to 5 horizontal forces and the
vertical force with a fixed structure at the bottom. The total height of the frame
is 15m and the width is 12m.

2. DEFORMATION SHAPE OF STRUCTURE UNDER STATIC

LOADING

The below structure with beams (310UB46.2) and columns (400WC270)

with applied lateral and Vertical load depicts the deformation, where the
maximum deformation is recorded as 0.249559. The Vertical force (Fv) of
250 is acting at the center of each beam and the Lateral force F1,F2,F3,F4 and
F5 are acting in Lateral direction.

3. BENDING MOMENT DIAGRAM OF THE FRAME

Fig 3: Bending moment diagram of the frame

The above figure is the Bending moment diagram of the frame under the applied
Lateral and Vertical loads. This figure also depicts the maximum bending
moment diagram.

4. LOCATION OF THE CRITICAL POSITION AND REASONS FOR SUCH

SELECTION

Fig 4: Bending moment diagram with critical section

The above figure shows the maximum bending moment at column 3, which is
the right most constraint (represented in red) and the element above that
will be in a critical position due to the highest bending moment in the below
member.

5. AXIAL FORCES AND STRESSES

Fig 4: Axial force

Fig 5: Axial Stress

The above figure represents the Axial force and Axial stress where a highest
highest longitudinal force is on the top left of the beam and lowest on the
bottom left, also axial stresses are recorded.

6. CONVERGENCE STUDIES

After carrying out the convergence studies between 6 different meshes, the
suitable mesh is 10th and 12th with a deformation of 0.24867 and 0.24867
which indicate the similar figures and the same is represented in the below
graph.

Fig 7: Mesh deformation

7. POTENTIAL ISSUES OF THE CURRENT ANALYSIS

Analyzing the frame using the necessary software results in the

recommendation of an additional support and reinforcement to the right side
column of the frame as it has high bending moment and hence there are
larger chances of deformation.
