Responsive Call to Worship (Psalm 8):
Leader: O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
People: Yet you speak in the cries of infants. The words of our own children remind us of your strength.
Leader: To look up at the work of your fingers - moon, stars, and constellations - how is it you still remember us?
People: You created us in the image of your glory, crowning us with glory and honor.
Leader: You have given us the care of all living things, all that you have made by your hand.
People: O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Opening Hymn: All Things Bright and Beautiful | vs. 1, 3, 4

Refrain:
All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small.
All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings:
God made their glowing colors, God made their tiny wings.
Refrain

The cold wind in the winter, The pleasant summer sun,

The ripe fruits in the garden: God made them every one.
Refrain

God gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty, Who has made all things well.
Refrain

Responsive and Silent Prayers of Confession Call to Confession: John 1:9-11

(The Leader's portion is from Ann Weems. Reaching for Rainbows, pp. 126, 130-131.)
All: O God of Creation and Compassion, in our efforts to become great in the Kingdom, we have too
often neglected one of the most precious resources you have entrusted to our care – your children.
Leader: What about the children of this world who are not filled with life’s joys? What about the children
who are have-nots? What about the child who lives in darkness? There are people wandering around in
darkness. They’re hungry, and they have people yelling at them all the time, and they can’t do anything
right, and their best friend moves away. When they do something that they think is good, nobody bothers
to tell them it’s good, and they get sick and nobody cares, and they don’t have a warm bed to sleep in, and
just when they’re shivering in the darkness, somebody comes along and pushes them, and then they’re
lying in the darkness crying.
All: Open our eyes to see what you would teach us through your children. Open our hearts to stand for
them when they cannot stand for themselves. Open our lives to make room for child-like celebration,
child-like humility, and child-like grace. We pray in the name of our Lord who came not as a King, but a
babe. Affirmation of Grace: John 1:12-13

Response: Jesus Loves Me | vs. 1
Jesus loves me! this I know, For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong; They are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me, The Bible tells me so. Amen.

Message: Destiny's Child (Matthew 18:1-5)

Hymn: Open My Eyes, that I May See

Open my eyes, that I may see Glimpses of truth You have for me;
Place in my hands the wonderful key That shall unclasp, and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Your will to see;
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my ears, that I may hear Voices of truth That You send clear;
And while the wave notes fall on my ear, Everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Your will to see;
Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Open my mouth, and let me bear Gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart, and let me prepare Love with Your children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Your will to see;
Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

Closing Hymn: We’ve a Story to Tell to the Nations | vs. 1, 3, 4

We’ve a story to tell to the nations That shall turn their hearts to the right
A story of truth and mercy, A story of peace and light,
a story of peace and light.

Refrain:
For the darkness shall turn to dawning, And the dawning to noonday bright,
And Christ’s great Kingdom shall come on earth The Kingdom of love and light.

We’ve a message to give to the nations, That the Lord who reigneth above
Hath sent us His Son to save us, And show us that God is love,
and show us that God is love.
Refrain

We’ve a Savior to show to the nations, Who the path of sorrow hath trod,
That all of the world’s great peoples Might come to the truth of God,
Might come to the truth of God.
