INTRODUCTION
Course of Events
Education systems had been evolving
towards more versatile domains, with
higher levels of technological integration.
In one sense, the normal was always
dynamically changing. The onset of the
pandemic has greatly accelerated the
process and we are now at the interface
with a whole new era of education,
wherein intelligent technology will help
shape the execution of pedagogical
paradigms.
Virtual education is the new
normal. Extant in various forms
and to various degrees of
integration, it has now become
an integral part of our lives. It
has impacted all aspects of life,
and the national education
policy is no exception.
Let us see how technology can
help us grasp, apply and realize
knowledge, or in other words,
learn by head, hand and heart!

government booklet.
Flexibility
The more flexible structure of e-learning means a larger
number of students can now take to education. This will
lead to a fall in dropout rates as many potential
candidates will now be able to access education despite
unfavourable conditions. (3)

Dropping out is usually ascribed to lack of safe or

engaging infrastructure: both of which can easily be
taken care of by technological platforms. (3.1)

Tracking student participation becomes easier with

online learning platforms, which can also be a great tool
for continuously evaluating student learning levels. (3.2)
Unavailability of teachers in specialized subjects and vocational training will no longer
be a problem.(5.5)

It will become significantly easier for teacher to pursue the prescribed 4 year B.Ed program,
without having to halt their professional lives.(5.2)

The problem of discontinuity in educational environment due to transfers can also be easily
addressed using the newly emerged platforms.(5.3)
Accessibility
Virtual education is more accessible,
and suitable for universal design. (6)
The cheaper infrastructure
involved means that a larger
section of society can now get
access to education.(6.2.2)

Universal design and

education for special needs
children is more feasible on
virtual platforms. (6.2.5)
Pragmatic
Forming virtual school clusters/complexes, instead of real ones makes
things a whole lot easier.(7)

The quantitative enormity and geographical dispersion of schools will no

longer act as a barrier to equitable resource distribution. (7.3)

Governance will also become easier with online/software tools (7.8)

03
Pedagogy for higher education
The national education policy aims to bring about holistic and multidisciplinary
education. Using online media can make this a reality very quickly. (11)

E-courses to train teachers in the required pedagogical skills will be greatly beneficial
for the teachers as it is more flexible and will garner more interest and motivation
from the teachers due to the factor of independence. (15)

Vocational training is usually difficult to obtain due to severe lack of trained

professionals, at least compared to the regular courses. This issue is addressed by the
distance learning tools that have emerged. (16)
04
Cons
Every rose has its thorn!!
The national education policy aims to bring about educational reform not only from a
cognitive perspective but also from a social and moral standpoint. Virtual education may not
be the best available option to foster individuals with integrity. (11)

Lack of peer association may also lead to reduced emotional and social intelligence, which
obviously was not planned. (11)

Holistic education also involved physical/bodily growth, through means of various physical
activities or sports integrated into the curriculum. A fully online approach will deprive the
students of this experience. (4)

Beyond all, the nourishment that students receive from teachers, no matter how old, and the
subtleties that they learn, through live interaction, cannot be replaced by any number of
technological concoctions.(5.3)
