**There will be 2 divisions as 5 teams will have lower grades on their team and the other 5 will

not.
As the Competition is likely to take place online, the questions will be more in-depth, requiring
critical thinking rather than memory recall.

Brain Bowl (Preliminary Round)

● 5 questions for each subject (10 questions total for each subject)

■ 3 teams group: team 6, 8, 9
■ 2 teams group: team 7, 10

● Gain points as written on the board
● There will be penalties for each question you get wrong
○ ie) If you get 500 one wrong, then you will lose 250 points
○ ie) if you get 300 one wrong, then you will lose 150 points

● First preliminary round


○ 3 teams will be placed into 1 group (there will be 3 groups or 4 depending on
the number of participants)
○ This will require 6 white boards and board markers (3 in dalton hall and 3 in
small theater) → 2 days of the first round
○ Materials: 6 white boards and board markers (3 in dalton hall and 3 in small
theater), 6 tables (3 in dalton hall and 3 in small theater), 2 projectors (1 in 3rd
floor library and 1 in small theater)
○ Each team will have time to solve the question presented on the powerpoint,
and when time is up for the question, answers will be checked, and those who
got the question correct will receive a point
○ The final scores of the teams will be compared, and the team with the lowest
score will be eliminated
○ This round will consist of the subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and
general science
■ 28 questions for each set
● Semi-finals round
○ 3 teams will be placed into 1 group (or 1 group will have 4 teams)
○ Each team will engage in a jeopardy round. This will require 7 buzzers.
■ The team who buzzes first and gets the answer correct will receive a
point
■ If the first team who buzzes does not get the answer, the other teams
can buzz to get the chance to answer
■ If none of the teams are able to answer the question in 30 seconds, the
question will be skipped, and none of the teams will receive a point.
○ The team with the greatest point in each round will be selected to move on to
the final round
○ The team with the second highest points will move onto the third place round
○ This round will consist of the subjects: Psychology, Chemistry, Biology,
Physics, computer science
● Third place round
○ 2 teams will be participating (the second place in each semi-finals round)
○ Each team will engage in a jeopardy round. This will require 2 buzzers
■ The team who buzzes first and gets the answer correct will receive a
point
■ If the first team who buzzes does not get the answer, the other teams
can buzz to get the chance to answer
■ If none of the teams are able to answer the question in 30 seconds, the
question will be skipped, and none of the teams will receive a point.
○ The team with the highest points will be placed 3rd place.
○ This round will consist of the subjects: Psychology, Chemistry, Biology,
Physics, general science
● Final round
○ The two teams will be given time to prepare for the final round
○ This round will consist of a presentation or a debate round for science topics
they have chosen. Three topics will be given, and the two teams can veto one
topic so that they will choose the one that is not vetoed.

○ The round will be judged by Mr. Martin and the hosts (JP and Hyeon)
■ 1st and 2nd place will be selected according to the judgements

Competition Rules
Preliminary Round
● Quiz bowl
● 2 representatives of each team will come up to solve the questions displayed from the
PPT slides
○ There will be rotations on the representatives of the teams for every change in
topic of questions (subject)
○ In one team, one person will not be allowed to come up more than twice per
round
○ There will be a 1 minute time limit for each question
○ The winning team will move up to the semifinals
Semi-finals & Third Place round
● Jeopardy
● All 4 representatives of each team will come up to solve the questions displayed from
the PPT slides
○ There will be a 30 second limit for each question.
○ The fastest team who buzzes will get the opportunity to answer. If the answer
is incorrect, the other teams will be able to answer.
○ The top 2 teams will move up to the finals
○ The top 3 and 4 team will move to the third place round to compete for 3rd
place
Finals round
● Debate/Presentation
● Both of the teams will veto one topic so that they will engage in a topic they did not
veto
○ Time limit for each team will be 7 minutes for presentation
○ Time limit for each person in debate will be 5 minutes for debate
○ 1st and 2nd place will be selected according to points given on the rubric.
