EXERCISE 1 – ENGLISH TENSES

Translate the following sentences.

Преведите следеће реченице.

Јуче сам први пут попила кафу у Старбаксу.

EXERCISE 2 – SIMPLE & CONTINUOUS

What is the difference in meaning between the pairs or groups of sentences
below?
Покушајте својим речима да објасните разлику између реченица (на
српском или енглеском, како вам је лакше).

E.g. Everyone’s very nice to me. (изношење чињенице, уобичајеног стања,

карактеристичног стања или особине)
Everyone’s being very nice to me. (тренутно стање, сугерише нешто
неуобичајено или изненађујуће)

You`re very kind. (Iznošenje činjenice)

You` re being very kind. (Iznošenje zahvalnosti npr. pri nekoj pomoći; Thanks

I’ll see Luis about it later. (videće se sa njim)

I’ll be seeing Luis about it later. (videće sa njim povodom nekog razloga)

The plane will be landing at Heathrow in 20 minutes. (Why is this structure

used in this situation? How does it make the passengers feel? Why?)

 (Obavešta ih da će avion sigurno sleteti na taj odredjeni aerodrom, I da nema

potrebe za brigom kod putnika.)

He hit me. (Sadašnje vreme, udario me je, u jednini)

He was hitting me. (Udarao me je, u množini više od jednog udarca.)

Who's been drinking my beer? (Ko je pio moje pivo, ne mora biti cela čaša)
Who's drunk my beer? (Ko mi je popio pivo, može oznaćavati celu čašu. )

Someone has eaten my sweets. (Može označiti to da je neko pojeo sve

slatkiše)
Someone has been eating my sweets. (Može označiti da je neko pojeo određen
broj slatkiša.)

She died . (Iznosi činjenicu)

She was dying. (Može označavati više stvari u zavinosti od konteksta npr. She
was dying from pain ili she was dying of curiosity.)

What do you do? (Šta radiš, može označavati više stvari na primer u zavisnosti
od konteksta, What do you do for fun.)
What are you doing? (Pitanje koje se odnosi šta radiš u datom trenutku.)

What did you do when you cut your finger? (Šta si uradio kada si posekao
prst, misli se na proceduru nakon napravljene posekotine npr. zavoj)
What were you doing when you cut your finger? (Šta si radio kada si posekao
prst, upitno, kako je došlo do incidenta)
He fired the gun. (Označava prošlo vreme, pucao je Iz pištolja)
He was firing the gun when I saw him (Pucao je iz pištolja kada sam ga
ugledao)

I’ve checked my emails and there’s no reply. (Proveravao sam mejlovi I nije
bilo odgovora)
I’ve been checking my emails, that’s why I’m late. (Proveravao sam mejlove I
zbog toga sam zakasnio, sugeriše se razlog njegovog kašnjenja)

The train leaves in 5 minutes. (Voz odlazi za 5 minuta, zvuči kao da je rečeno
od strane nekog ko radi na stanici.)
The train is leaving in 5 minutes! (Dok ovo više zvuči kao da rečeno od strane
nekog našeg poznanika koji nam ukazuje da voz može da se zakasni na voz)

EXERCISE 3 – PERFECT
What is the difference in meaning between the pairs or groups of sentences

Покушајте својим речима да објасните разлику између реченица (на
српском или енглеском, како вам је лакше).

E.g. They’ve been married for 30 years. (они су у браку 30 година и још увек
су браку)
They were married for 30 years. (они су били у браку 30 година али више
нису; могуће да су се развели, да су преминули и сл.)

I come from Scotland. (Dolazim iz Škotske)

I’ve come from Scotland. (Ja sam došao iz Škotske, može označavati da je
odatle došao ali da sada više ne živi tu.)

When I’ve talked to him, I’ll tell you. (Kada budem razgovarala sa njim rećiću
ti.)
When I talk to him, I’ll tell him. (Kada budem razgovarala sa njim rećiću mu)

The arrangements will be finalized on Friday. (Dogovor će biti završen u petak

- odredjuje tačan dan završetka)
The arrangements will have been finalized by Friday. (Dogovor će biti završen
do petka, određuje se krajni dan završetka dogovora.)
Did you ever meet my grandfather? ( Da li sam ga ikada upoznao.)
Have you ever met my grandfather? (Pitanja da li sam ga ikada upoznao u
prošlosti.)

I wish I knew the way. (Želeo bih da znam put)

I wish I had known the way. (Voleo bih da sam znao put – određuje nešto što u
prošlosti nije znao a sada zna).

EXERCISE 4 – PERFECT
Problems with Perfect Tenses:

The sentences below contain common errors that students make with the
perfect tenses in English. Try to correct them and think about why the student
made the error (e.g. language 1 interference, confusion with another tense).
Покушајте да исправите грешке у реченицама и размислите зашто је
студент направио грешку. (нпр. због утицаја матерњег језика; зато
што је одређено време помешао са другим временом – са којим, зашто?
и сл.)

EXERCISE 7

Разврстајте временсе одредбе у одговарајуће колоне (Present Time, Past

Time, Future Time, Present Perfect).
Неке одредбе могу се свртати у више колона јер, као што можете
приметити. код назива свих колона (сем Present Perfect) стоји Time а не
Tense, како бисте стекли ширу слику о реалном времену и граматичком
времену.
