Lumbocan History
During the year 1891 Lumbocan received a solid bronze bell from the jesuit Missionaries. Outside the
portion of the bell engraved the seal of the missionand legendary words "A?O 1891 LAMBUCAN". The
nameLUMBOCAN gotItsname fromaJesuitMissionary Priest, Father jose Bocso during the fiesta Patron of
Holy Cruz that was celebrated every third day of May (Santa Cruz deMayo).He made a complaint of the
noise of the mosquitoes, since the place was swampyand muddy; they called the placeas"LAMOKAN".
Another tale wasthat beach formation of the village which was like he top of the portion of a bell shaped
wooden martar used for pounding rice and that upon constant bouncing of big waves during stormy
weather, it sounds like poundingthe riceand they called the soundof"LUBOKAN". And now they finally
called and name the placeofficially as: LUMBOCAN".
In 1938 there were three llanggo brothers headed by a certain Felix Cabalo who introduced a new
fishing gear called "Salambao" or locally called as "Sapyaw"that net of fishing gear found only in
Lumbocan. Since fishing was the main source of living of the residents they changed theirPatron Saint to
Saint Peter as theirFishermenPatron then they celebrated their fiesta on the 20% and 29th of June
respectively. There were construction of Primary School openingofLumbocan-
Libertadroad,andBarrioHealthCenterthatwasanaldfromthe PCSO.
Masao/Lumbocan Port constructed during the late Congressman Guillermo R. Sanchez. The port was the
center of in-coming and out-going local and foreign vessels. Therewere more barangay
facilitiesconstructed,suchastheLumbocan-Langihan road, BarrioMarket,Lumbocam-Masao
High School, concrete bridge at P-6, Day Care Center, and Elementary School. In 1961 the School of
Fisheries was also established and developedthe knowledge oftheschool childreninFishery and Aquatic
Culture. Since then, the place has no definite area to put up the fishery building. It served only for four
years and in 1965 it was transferred to Matabao. Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. There was also at
thetime afull operation and booming ofthe D.OPlazaPlywoodPlantin 1976 that caters
greateremployment ofthe residents. Another establishment wasprivately constructed in1979, a Medical
Clinic owned by Mr. Reynaldo Magada to provide more access to the people for their health problems.
In 1980's to 90's another set of development took place, the construction Day Care Center for the pre-
schoolers and energization of the barangay through ANECO. In 1989 the Sea Wall was constructed
aproject thatprotects the Barangay and the residents from the havor wroughtby big waves especially
duringtyphoons. Another Elementary School building and a newHighSchool buildingwere constructed.
Road concreting, installation of potable water supplythrough the effort of the Barangay Council headed
by the late Punong Barangay Haspecio Lagura and the Butuan City Government also took place. The City
Government Initiated the mangrove reforestation project as a geological protection.
By the turn of the 3rd millennium, more projects were established; the new basketball
court,continuation of sea wall project, terminal shed, and construction of covered court. There were
also a coastal clean-up undertaken in the barangay as part of the Solid Waste Management Program
Activities under the leadership of the Punong Barangay Perpetua P. Maning.
Birthing Clinic, New Barangay Hall and Health Center, Waiting Shed of different Purok's and
Pathways and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) under the leadership of Punong Barangay
ShirleyM.Reyes.ContinuoussupportofSolid WasteManagementProgram oftheCity Government headed
by ourCity Mayor Engr. Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada.
With these seeming on going progress Lumbocan is envisioned of becoming booming rural area an
industrial seaport with sufficient infrastructure service, peace and loving and empowered citizenry
through economic progress with sustainable development of coastal resources.

Lokasyon at Hanganani
Lumbocan is located north 4. 25 kilometers away from the City Proper. In 1521
Lumbocan was sitio of Masao. By virtue of barrio assembly 1930, Lumbocan wat separated to Masao
and became an independent barangay
Lumbocan has a land area of approximately 484.2163 (City Assessor's) hectares. The Agriculture profile
of the barangay though places its total land area of 224.8438 hectares.
The barangay is composed of Thirteen [13) Puroks, It is bounded on the north by Butuan Bay, on the cast
by Sitio Sagpod and Mantangi on the south by sitio Kiwaan and on the west barangay Masao,
