It is the duty of government of protect women. But this protection of state is more of a cure
than prevention. The law punishes a perpetrator after he has committed the crime. However, a
woman has a right to defend herself as soon as she senses danger. This principle is embodied
in the right of private defence under the Indian Penal Code.
