Multicultural Education EDU 280
1
Program competency: Apply the dimensions of multicultural education to
support appropriate pedagogical practices for teaching diverse students.
2
Artifacts: I am project, diversity lesson plan.
What I learned: Throughout this course, I learned the importance of evaluating
and acknowledging all races, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds. It also taught
me to behave stereotypes in the classroom and techniques to avoid them. We
3 4
all have our own beliefs and backgrounds which determine how we view the
5
world. The diversity lesson plan helped me to understand how to create lessons
6
centered on multiple embracing and accepting diversity. The I am project
7
allowed me to assess my own life, and the stereotypes I faced every day
because of my culture. It allowed me to see that stereotyping someone because
of their race or culture is harmful.
How this helps my future: After completing the course, it is easy to see just how
8 9
damaging stereotypes can be, I will do everything I can do to keep it out of my
future classroom. Creating a welcoming and accepting atmosphere will ensure
10
all students feel safe. Also, I will do many activities where the students can
learn about other cultures to help them become more knowledgeable,
understand the importance, and appreciate every cultured race.
