1. Introduc on
The installa on of this sta on is planned to take place within polygons with a total area of
3,510 acres in an area near the se lement of Zeli, in the municipality of Am kleia.
The descrip on of the project that will be presented in the following sec ons includes:
As men oned above, the installa on includes the produc on of electricity u lising as raw
material the solar radia on through the technology of the photovoltaic system.
3. PROPOSED EQUIPMENT
The basic equipment used in a photovoltaic sta on is divided into two categories,
mechanical and electrical. The mechanical equipment includes the support system while the
electrical includes the photovoltaic panels (solar panels), the inverters and the transformers.
Apart from these two categories, there is also the auxiliary equipment provided for the
installa on (surveillance cameras, wiring, etc.). Reference to auxiliary equipment is given in
the next chapter.
As men oned above, the mechanical equipment includes all the equipment related to the
installa on and support of the PV panels on the ground. The main parts that will be analyzed
below are: the type of the base, the holders (clamps) of the PV panels and the bolts/nuts/
washers required.
The proposed base consists of a mesh made of galvanised steel S355JR, cer ed to the
interna onal standard ISO1461. The main parts of the base are:
• Piles with type C pro le, immersed in the ground by means of suitable piling machines
• Diagonal beams with type C pro le, which adjust the inclina on of the PV panels
• Horizontal beams with pro le C
• Ver cal beams with pro le Ω, on which the PV panels are placed

3.1.2. Clamps
The support of the PV modules on the beams with pro le Ω is achieved with the use of the
clamps. These special components are made of aluminum, which is the same metal used in
PV modules. To prevent corrosion, due to the di erent metals, polyamide plates are placed
on the interface between the PV modules, retainers and the ver cal beam, as shown in
Figure 2.
The connec on of the parts of the network men oned above is achieved by using quality
stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers made of Α2 Stainless Steel.
Electrical equipment is related to the electricity genera on process. Its main parts that
include photovoltaic modules, inverters, transformers and telemetry system are presented
below.

Photovoltaic modules are probably the most important factor of a PV sta on as through
them the conversion of solar energy into electricity is carried out through the photovoltaic
process. Thus, through this process, the PV modules convert the solar radia on into direct
current (DC) which then through appropriate treatment passes to the network.
For the proposed sta on the selected PV modules are double sided and of rated power
580W, measured in special STC condi ons (the test is performed with temperature equal to
25 ° C and radia on equal to 1000W / m²). More details on the PV modules selected are
given in Table 1.

2. Inverters
In order for the sta on's current to be able to be fed into the grid, it must have the appropriate
format. The rst step in this direc on is to convert the current from direct current (DC) to alterna ng
current (AC). This process is achieved through the use of inverters.
The use of Huawei string inverters has been chosen for the proposed installa on. The speci c model
that has been selected achieves a degree of e ciency of 98.8%, based on the manufacturer's
speci ca ons. This prac cally means that it can convert the output current of the PV panels from
con nuous to alterna ng in almost 1: 1 ra o. Some of the key features of this inverter are shown
below and more technical details are given in Table 2:

This section brie y describes the installation method of the equipment and the
required facilities to be constructed.
Before the start of the works of the installation of the PV station, the landscaping of
the land is required. With the use of special and suitable earthworks machinery
and specialised personnel, the ground will be levelled rst so that it is possible to
install the xed bases of the PV panels.
Then the compound are will be created, which will be used as a space for
receiving and storing equipment and other materials.
Along with the construction of the compound area, the construction of the internal
roads will proceed, which will serve both during the construction for the transport
of equipment and materials, as well as during the operation and maintenance of
the station for the approach of the substations. Finally, depending on the
requirements of the land that will be con rmed by the geotechnical study, surface
drainage will be formed for the proper drainage of water.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF PV STATION GEOENERGY II
The bases that will be used in this PV station, as presented in the previous section,
will be made of galvanised steel. For the assembly of the system, the rst step is
the penetration of the piles into the ground with the use of a suitable machine
(piling). During this stage, the manufacturer's instructions and standards will be
followed to maintain the correct distances between adjacent piles as well as the
depth of penetration resulting from the geotechnical and static study.
The next step, after the completion of the piling step, is the assembly of the parts
of the system, which will follow the manufacturer's instructions, taking care to
maintain the correct inclination de ned in the energy study. At the end of the
mechanical installation, the network will be ready for the installation of the PV
modules.
After the completion (or at the same time) of the installation of the mechanical
equipment, the bases for the installation of the transformers and the
accompanying housing will be constructed. The speci c bases will be constructed
using reinforced concrete and their characteristics (dimensions, quality of
concrete, reinforcement) will be determined by the static study.
The installation of the PV panels will be done according to the standards of the
manufacturer, with special care for the observance of the correct inclination of the
PV panels as de ned by the energy study, which will be grouped in arrays during
their connection. For grouping, the determining factor is the characteristics of the
PV panels (voltage and intensity), as well as the characteristics of the inverters. To
group the frames and create the arrays (string - number of frames connected in
series) care will be taken to create groups with the same number of frames in the
same inverter, so that the ends of each array have the same voltage. At the same
time, care will be taken that the arrays that will be created have a voltage at their
ends that it is within the operating limits of the selected inverter. In addition, in this
step, the inverters will be installed in their bases, in such a way as speci ed by the
manufacturer.
The connection of the arrays to the inverters will be made via a cable type of DC Solar
1x6mm2 (or 1x4mm2, depending on the distances and the electrical study for losses).
These cables will meet all the requirements for outdoor use, underground and in pipes
and ducts. To better distinguish the cables, different colours can be used, depending on
the polarity of the power they carry. More speci cally, red for the positive and black for the

negative pole respectively. At the end of each array, there will be MC4 connectors,
suitable for photovoltaic systems.
The cables are supported on the xed base with plastic ties (cable ties), resistant to
sunlight (UV resistant), to avoid inductive currents. DC wiring will follow the direction of
either polarity. The cables will run in pairs, interconnecting one PV circuit after another
before traveling to the inverter input. For the installation of the links, special tools will be
used, as speci ed by each manufacturer.
Figure 8:Cabling between P/V modules and inverter: Solar DC cable (le ) and MC4 connector (right)
The inverters will be grouped in a combined central panel in threes (3) or quads
(4) depending on the loads they carry. To transfer power from the inverters to the
panel, AC cables will be used - tripolar. The selected cables will be resistant to all
weather conditions, will be ame retardant and will be able to withstand high
mechanical stress. These cables will run from the inverters to the LV Panels, either
underground with the use of an electrical coil or above ground with the use of
metal grilles, depending on the nal electrical design for the wiring routes. The AC
LV panels will meet in a General Low Voltage Panel again using AC cables, but
larger this time as they will carry much larger loads. Their routes will be arranged in
a similar way.
The transformers will be connected to the client substation with Medium Voltage
cables, buried, in a layer of sand so that a low ambient temperature can be
achieved and therefore optimal conductivity behaviour.

The construction of the auxiliary facilities includes the installation of the remote
monitoring system and the security system.
Remote monitoring will be performed via the Smart Array Controller which is
installed inside the Client Substation housing. The connection of this equipment as
mentioned will be done wirelessly with the inverters and the only wiring required
is with the central data unit that will be included in the monitoring rack.
The meteorological station of the park will be connected to the same unit, which
will provide real data on the local weather conditions in order to accurately
calculate the ef ciency of the installation.
The security system includes the installation of surveillance cameras and alarm
system.
The cameras will be placed around the PV station, inside the fence and at a safe
distance of at least 2 meters from it. They will be supported on metal posts, which
will be based on reinforced concrete bases measuring 50x50x50 cm. The cameras
will be connected underground with optic bre and power supply wiring to the
recorder that will be installed inside the Client Substation housing.
To secure the area, an alarm system will be installed that will include infrared
sensors around the station as well as magnetic contacts on the doors. The
connection of the above is made to the central data unit inside the Client
Substation housing.
This project is a business plan of GEOENERGY II, which includes the construction
of a PV station in the wider area, near the settlement Zeli, with a total capacity of
about 120 MW.
It is estimated that for the needs of connection of all the generated power of the
project, a new autonomous High Voltage Substation will be constructed at a point
within the Ultra High Voltage lines that run through the area. The location of the
connection point shown in the image is indicative as the nal position of the point
will be obtained after consultation with the System Administrator (ΑΔΜΗΕ).

The transfer of generated power from the proposed station is planned to take
place via Medium Voltage overhead lines, as shown in Figure 9. The total length of
the lines is estimated at 6 km.
Finally, the total cost of the interconnection, which includes the cost of
construction of the Medium Voltage overhead lines and the cost of the High
Voltage Station, estimated at 9.740.000,00 €.
