REVIEW OF THE RELATED LITERATURE AND THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK OF THE STUDY

Theoretical Background

The researchers included the following legal basis to support the relevance of the study.

Cutting classes has become such an everyday fact of life in High Schools that many educators now view

it as a dangerous first step on the road to academic failure for many young people. In some schools,

cutting can reduce total classroom attendance by up to 20 percent, according to anew comprehensive

computer analysis, the first of it's kind. In absolute terms, this can mean that 50,000 to 70,000 classes in

a school are cut in one month. Changing Social Attitudes. (Samuel Weiss, 1988)

According to Alice Wu (2013), it is common for students to cut classes in high school. Students in high

school love skipping classes. Some students think that they are mature enough to do whatever they

want. Teacher's talk is annoying. Skipping classes and having their own way is much. They think

theybcan take responsibilities for themselves. Alice Wu think that there are three main reasons for this

phenomenon.

First, students usually think classes are boring. They are not willing to spend time on things they are not

interested in. They may think the content of the textbook is not useful in the future. They may think

they go to school just for a diploma. They go to classes just for passing tests. They would rather play

computer games, video games, or anything they are interested in than coming to school and classes.

(Alice Wu, 2003)

Second, peer pressure is another factor that causes this phenomenon. Alice Wu think peers can affect a

college and high school students a lot. Youngsters love to do things with their friends. If their friends do
not go to school, they would not go to school either. Alice Wu think peers are an important factor that

makes students cut classes in schools. (Alice Wu,2003)

The primary cause of cutting classes is plain laziness. Students often stay up late and thus skip classes for

oversleeping. The bad weather like heavy rain also an excuse for their absence. Many high school

students convince themselves to skip or cut classes with this excuse. The fact is laziness is the real

reason that makes them skip or cut classes. On the other hand, lots of hardworking students still go to

schools in heavy rain as usual. Even though there are traffic jams, they can get up early, beat the traffic,

and arrive at school on time.

Lastly, according to Alice Wu (2013), although cutting classes is common, students should do their duty

as a high school students. Students should have positive attitude to do everything. Even though they

think classes are boring, they can skip and cut classes together, they are lazy to go to school, and they

are old enough to do whatever they want, they should take responsibilities for themselves.
