Musical Creation On The Soundtrack: XIII International Symposium
MUSICAL CREATION
ON THE SOUNDTRACK
For almost two decades the International Symposium “La creación musical en la banda sonora” has
been a reference forum for research in audiovisual media´s music in Spain. The first meeting took place
in 2002; since then, the analysis of this type of cultural material has become a booming discipline, due
to the growing interest for musicology and for cultural, cinema, video games and audiovisual studies.
The Symposium´s goal is being again an exchange platform for the discussion of these topics, covering
national and international contexts. The crisis caused by Covid-19 has raised uncertainties about holding
meetings face-to-face. Thereby, the Audiovisual Languages Commission of the Spanish Musicology
Society —which promotes this event— has agreed in using online tools in the upcoming thirteenth edition
of the symposium. Following previous meetings, we will maintain topics such as the process of
composition and the analysis of the music of Spanish and foreign cinema, so as the different methods of
approach to these issues.
The conference is also focused in delve into the music of our audiovisual surrounding: music in
television series, advertisements, and music videos, as well as the growing audiovisual opportunities
offered by Internet and video games. The educational field and the possibilities of musical and
audiovisual language with didactic approach continue to increase their relevance; for this reason, we
encourage submitting papers about it. Finally, we also contemplate the inclusion of works concerning the
production and consumption practices linked to a digital context, the audiovisual within the music
industry, and film music criticism.
Papers must be submitted following the abstract form. They will include a title (and if necessary, subtitle),
name of the author or authors (maximum 2), academic or professional affiliation, four keywords and a
brief CV (10 lines). Abstracts in Spanish or English will not exceed 300 words. Proposals will be mailed in
word (.doc, .docx) to: myla@sedem.es Submission of proposals, until February 26, 2021.
The organization will communicate the accepted proposals in March 2021. Speakers are encouraged to
include English subtitles, keywords or central ideas in their presentations, to facilitate the knowledge
exchange. There will be up to 15 minutes for each communication.
After the Symposium, authors have the option to publish the full texts in article format, in Cuadernos de
Investigación Musical (UCLM-CIDoM-Unidad Asociada al CSIC), once the paper pass blind peer review
