4.3.1 Accessories
Notice!
The installation site of the MATRIX control panel or room temperature sensor is
crucial for the precise measurement of room temperature
Therefore the MATRIX control panels or sensors must:
– not be fitted next to doors, windows, passages etc., since intense movement of air
can cause incorrect measurements,
– not be mounted to hot or cold walls (e.g. chimney, outside wall), since the wall
temperature can cause incorrect measurements,
– not be fitted behind curtains or net curtains, since the insulating layers of air can
cause incorrect measurements,
– not be mounted adjacent to the unit's discharge grilles, since the discharge tem-
perature can cause incorrect measurements
– not be fitted below cold surfaces like windows, since descending cold air flow can
cause incorrect measurements.
NOTE!
When mounting the MATRIX control panels in a flush-mounted socket,
especially hollow-wall socket, ensure that nothing can impede the correct mea-
surement of the room temperature. To avoid draught, provide appropriate insu-
lation of the flush-mounted socket, if necessary.
If the control panel is mounted on a flush-mounted socket, edges of the mounting
plate may remain visible, depending on the socket and the way it is mounted. If
necessary, use paint, wall paper, or similar means to prepare the installation sur-
face.
It also possible to hide the visible edges of the mounting plate by using a wall-
lamp socket with vertical mounting dimensions (screw clearance) of 60 mm
Notice!
The MATRIX control panels OPxxI (IP54) have no integrated room temperature
sensor. Mount the supplied sensor at a suitable location (see „Planning of moun-
ting“ on page 15). Depending on the unit, a return-air sensor can also be
employed instead of the room temperature sensor.
• Use the groove to break off the bottom part of the circuit
board and place it in the flush-mounted socket.
• Route the wires through the flush-mounted socket and con-
nect the bus cable (refer to cable recommendation for MA-
TRIX.Net) as follows:

A cable strap is used to provide cable strain
relief and shielding.
• Use the supplied cable to connect the circuit board with the
terminals of the mounting plate of the MATRIX OP5XC
control panel, as illustrated in Tabelle 5-2 auf Seite 20.
The following steps are necessary for the connection of the MATRIX control unit:
– Connect mains electrical supply
– Connect MATRIX.Net
– Connecting external room temperature sensors (only for IP54 versions)
Notice!
To set up the MATRIX.net, only use data transfer cables that comply with
DIN 19245 T3 and EN 50170, with twisted-pair wire and braided shield -
refer to Kapitel 5.6 „Cable recommendations MATRIX.Net“ on page 24.
*
• Hook the front panel over the top of the mounting plate.
Apply light pressure to the bottom of the front panel until it
snaps into place.
Notice!
If necessary, it is also possible to connect a room temperature sensor to IP20
models . With controllers of type MATRIX 3000/4000 a room temperature sensor
can be directly connected to the controller circuit board. (Refer to the operation
manual of the relevant unit.)
The following steps are necessary for the connection of the MATRIX control unit:
– Connect mains electrical supply
– Connect HVAC equipment
– if required, connect MATRIX.Net
– If required, connect global modules
– Connect external room temperature sensor (for IP54 versions)

Notice!
The unit covers OPD.C and OPD.I are available as optional accessories for the
MATRIX control panels OP2xx/OP3xx/OP44x.
The unit cover has small plastic pins The MATRIX control
panels have corresponding cavities in the upper part.
• Engage the unit cover at first on one side with the plastic pins
in the cavity (arrows).
• Then with light and cautious deformation of the unit cover,
engage the other plastic pins in the corresponding cavity on
the other side (arrows).
• Examine unit cover for functionality by opening and closing
with a snap.
Electrical hazard!
The MATRIX control panels are powered by the power units of the air treatment
units. Therefore, the control panel itself can not be powered down!
Switch off the power to the air treatment units and make sure they are isolated,
earth and short-circuit them, block off or shield any neighboring or live com-
ponents.
Non-compliance can lead to death or serious injury.
• Switch the HVAC equipment and thus the MATRIX control panel voltage-free.
• Use a screwdriver to release the front panel and lift it up from
the mounting plate, as shown in the illustration.
* If no network consisting of several groups is configured, this setting can be taken over
unchanged.
Equipment damage!
Disconnect all electric power before changing the group address!

ELECTRICAL HAZARD!
Therefore switch on the power supply or power circuitry of the units only after all
installation work has been completed!
Notice!
You will find additional information on the operation and running of the MATRIX
control unit under „Using DencoHappel MATRIX Control Panels“ auf Seite 30.
Notice!
The features of the MATRIX control panels depends on the variant.
Depending on the features, a few control elements are not available.
1
1
Notice!
If no settings are made on the MATRIX control panel within 60 seconds, the LED
brightness is automatically reduced.
Notice!
The manual specification "0" fan OFF has a higher priority than a specification
for the economy mode of a MATRIX.DI/Clock or Matrix.LON, i.e. if "Fan OFF" "0"
is set at the control pane, the unit switches OFF, and if Matrix.DI/Clock or
MATRIX.Lon is used to switch to economy mode, the unit furthermore remains
OFF.
Notice!
Using the service tool DencoHappel MATRIX.PC, you can select between the
specifications of an absolute and a relative target value (z. B. +/–3 °C) for the
room temperature via the control panel.
With the specification of a relative target value, an additional base reference
value (e.g. with MATRIC OP71) is required.
The relative setpoint is only valid for normal operation; in economy mode the
saved absolute setpoint for economy mode is used.
Notice!
If the economy mode is activated by the influence of a building management sys-
tem (status LED "Ext." and LED economy mode light up), the "bypass operation"
can be activated by pressing the economy mode key. This way, for a time period
(default setting: 120 min.) adjustable with the service tool, the "economy mode"
or "standby" is bridged – the air handling systems work in normal operation (cf.
„Parameters for economy mode setting/saving for OP21x/31x/44x“ on page 34).
The yellow LED economy mode key goes off during the bridging time period.
Notice!
It is not possible to set the fan to "OFF"with the control panel for the economy
mode: fan "OFF" can only be configured with the MATRIX.PC service tool.
The economy mode setpoint values of the OP30C can only be changed with the
MATRIX.PC service tool (since OP30C has no key for normal/economy mode).
The economy mode can be set with a superior module e.g. a building
management system; once the presettings have been cancelled, the OP30C
once again runs in the normal operation.
(After the elimination of a superior setting, the operating mode normal/economy
mode of the OP30C can be configured with the MATRIX.PC service tool.)
Notice!
If a setting for day operation is received externally (e.g, from MATRIX.DI/Clock
or MATRIX.LON), the economy mode values cannot be saved by pressing the
economy mode key >5 seconds.
The reduced values can be changed with the MATRIX.PC service tool.
Or you remove the external influence in order to be able to save the values for
the economy mode via the control panel.
Notice!
If no settings are made on the MATRIX control panel within 60 seconds, the LED
brightness is automatically reduced.
Notice!
The features of the MATRIX control panels and the air treatment units depend
on the model variant.
Depending on the features, a few error messages are not activated.
The MATRIX control panels are furnished with an expanded error message list. The
error messages are presented by a single LED display (1) with different blink codes .
An error message consists of a maximum of four blink pulses. The pulses are dis-
tinguished by short and long light durations.
The error messages are ordered according to priority (see <Name>Blink codes of the
DencoHappel MATRIX control panels OP20C/OP21x/OP30x/OP31C/OP44x), so that
an important error message overwrites a less important one . If the important error is
resolved, the next error message is subsequently shown.
Example:
The sensor of the room temperature is defective (priority 20) and the corresponding
blink code is displayed.
Then the motor protection is triggered (priority 2).
Since the triggering of the motor protection has a higher priority, this error message is
displayed (by a long blink).
Notice!
If an error is eliminated, it is no longer reported at the MATRIX control panel. The
error message automatically extinguishes.
