MATRIX Control Panel without Display Assembly and Installation

5 Assembly and Installation

Electrical hazard!
The electrical installation and (dis)assembly of the MATRIX control panel may
only be carried out by qualified electricians in compliance with this operation
manual and current VDE regulations (German Association for Electrical, Elect-
ronic, and Information Technologies)
• Before drilling, ensure that the drilling area is free from electrical cables and
pipes.
• Only indoor mounting of the MATRIX control panel is allowed
• Do not connect the MATRIX control panel to an external voltage

5.1 Planning of mounting

Notice!
The installation site of the MATRIX control panel or room temperature sensor is
crucial for the precise measurement of room temperature
Therefore the MATRIX control panels or sensors must:
– not be fitted next to doors, windows, passages etc., since intense movement of air
can cause incorrect measurements,
– not be mounted to hot or cold walls (e.g. chimney, outside wall), since the wall
temperature can cause incorrect measurements,
– not be fitted behind curtains or net curtains, since the insulating layers of air can
cause incorrect measurements,
– not be mounted adjacent to the unit's discharge grilles, since the discharge tem-
perature can cause incorrect measurements
– not be fitted below cold surfaces like windows, since descending cold air flow can
cause incorrect measurements.

The casing of the MATRIX OPxxC (IP20) control panel is designed for wall mounting
and flush-mounted sockets.

NOTE!
When mounting the MATRIX control panels in a flush-mounted socket,
especially hollow-wall socket, ensure that nothing can impede the correct mea-
surement of the room temperature. To avoid draught, provide appropriate insu-
lation of the flush-mounted socket, if necessary.
If the control panel is mounted on a flush-mounted socket, edges of the mounting
plate may remain visible, depending on the socket and the way it is mounted. If
necessary, use paint, wall paper, or similar means to prepare the installation sur-
face.
It also possible to hide the visible edges of the mounting plate by using a wall-
lamp socket with vertical mounting dimensions (screw clearance) of 60 mm

• Use a screwdriver to release the front panel (1) from the

6.5 Mechanical limitation of the setpoints

In order that the operator at the MATRIX control panel
cannot set unwanted parameters, there is a mechanism
located below the knobs (1) to limit the minimum and ma-
1 ximum value.
Three ratchet teeth are asymmetrically installed on the res-
2 pective indicator rings (2). Two adjusting rings (respectively
for minimum (3) and maximum value (4)) can be pushed
3 on.
4 The adjusting rings have a stop side with which the respec-
tive the minimum and maximum value can be determined.
The knobs can no longer be rotated beyond these values.

• Pull off the knob (1) for the fan speeds or the setpoint value
of the room temperature.
• Take off the display ring (2) and the setting rings (3 and 4).
• Set the adjusting rings (3 and 4) respectively on the display
6
ring (2) so that the stop side (arrow) is always below the de-
sired value and the maximum adjustable range of the rotary
2 1 knob thus corresponds to your set values.
• Carefully adjust the setting/display ring combination and
center it on the housing ring (6).
• Set the rotary knob (1) on the housing and turning it with
4 slight pressure until it engages.
3
• Make sure to maintain the same position of indentation at the
axle and axle take-up.

9 The rotary knob for the fan speeds or room temperature only
now permits setting within the minimum and maximum
6 value.

7.2 Explanation of the control elements

Notice!
If no settings are made on the MATRIX control panel within 60 seconds, the LED
brightness is automatically reduced.

7.2.1 Adjust fan speed

Switch Setting Explanation

Use the rotary switch to specify the speed stages of
the fan.
0 The fan is switched off 1)
(Standby operation).
1 to 5 The fan is operated with the preset speed .2)
Auto The speed stages are automatically specified by the
controller. The greater the deviation of the room
temperature, the higher the fan speed.
1)
If the room temperature drops below 4 °C, the frost protection func-
tion is automatically activated (heat valve opens).
2)
The fan speeds can be restricted mechanically with restraining
rings (compare „Mechanical limitation of the setpoints“ on
page 28).

Notice!
The manual specification "0" fan OFF has a higher priority than a specification
for the economy mode of a MATRIX.DI/Clock or Matrix.LON, i.e. if "Fan OFF" "0"
is set at the control pane, the unit switches OFF, and if Matrix.DI/Clock or
MATRIX.Lon is used to switch to economy mode, the unit furthermore remains
OFF.

7.2.2 Presetting setpoint room temperature

Switch Setting Explanation

7 to 40 °C The setpoint of the room temperature is specified
with the rotary switch .1)
Default setting: 10 to 30 °C

1) The setpoint room temperature can be mechanically restricted with

a restraining ring (cf. „Mechanical limitation of the setpoints“ on
page 28). Alternatively, a restriction can be performed with the ser-
vice tool.

Notice!
Using the service tool DencoHappel MATRIX.PC, you can select between the
specifications of an absolute and a relative target value (z. B. +/–3 °C) for the
room temperature via the control panel.
With the specification of a relative target value, an additional base reference
value (e.g. with MATRIC OP71) is required.
The relative setpoint is only valid for normal operation; in economy mode the
saved absolute setpoint for economy mode is used.

7.2.3 Setting normal/economy mode

Switch Setting Explanation

Changeover switch: normal/economy mode 1)
The changeover switch specifies whether the
HVAC equipment should work in normal or eco-
nomy mode (night operation mode).
not The HVAC equipment is working in normal
pressed operation (day operation).
(LED OFF)
Pressed The HVAC equipment is working in economy mode
(LED ON) (night operation).
For distinctive aspects of switching on the economy
mode, see Chapter 7.3 „Parameters for economy
mode setting/saving for OP21x/31x/44x“.

Notice!
If the economy mode is activated by the influence of a building management sys-
tem (status LED "Ext." and LED economy mode light up), the "bypass operation"
can be activated by pressing the economy mode key. This way, for a time period
(default setting: 120 min.) adjustable with the service tool, the "economy mode"
or "standby" is bridged – the air handling systems work in normal operation (cf.
„Parameters for economy mode setting/saving for OP21x/31x/44x“ on page 34).
The yellow LED economy mode key goes off during the bridging time period.

7.2.4 Setting recirculating air/mixed air operation

Switch Setting Explanation

Use the key to specify whether the air treatment
equipment should work in the recirculating air or in
outside-air mode.

Not pressed The HVAC equipment works in the recirculating-air

(LED OFF) mode: fresh-air rate 0%.
Pressed The HVAC equipment works in outside air opera-
(LED ON) tion: fresh air rate 100%.

working in the operating mode Only Heating/Only
Cooling or Automatic.
not The HVAC equipment works in the mode "Only
pressed Cooling" or "Automatic Operation".
(LED OFF)

Pressed If the key is pressed, the HVAC equipment works

(LED ON) exclusively in heating operation.
not The HVAC equipment works in the mode "Only
pressed Heating" or "Automatic Operation".
(LED OFF)

Pressed If the key is pressed, the HVAC equipment works

(LED ON) exclusively in cooling operation.
Both keys If both keys "Heating" and "Cooling" are not
not pressed pressed, the HVAC equipment works in "automatic
(both LEDs operation".
OFF) The switchover between heating and cooling takes
place automatically.

7.2.6 Movement of the secondary louvre

Switch Setting Explanation

7.3 Parameters for economy mode setting/saving for OP21x/31x/44x

The parameters for economy mode/night operation are set and
saved as follows:
• Set the desired parameters on the MATRIX control panel (to
the extent practicable), e.g. 19°C / automatic operation /
recirculating air / only heating.
• Press the normal and economy mode (1) keys and keep
pressed for 5 seconds (until the RUN LED blinks).
9 The preset values for economy mode are now saved.
The saved values are taken over as parameters by the con-
troller for the next activation of the economy mode.
1 • Now again reset the values for normal operation.

Notice!
It is not possible to set the fan to "OFF"with the control panel for the economy
mode: fan "OFF" can only be configured with the MATRIX.PC service tool.

The economy mode setpoint values of the OP30C can only be changed with the
MATRIX.PC service tool (since OP30C has no key for normal/economy mode).
The economy mode can be set with a superior module e.g. a building
management system; once the presettings have been cancelled, the OP30C
once again runs in the normal operation.
(After the elimination of a superior setting, the operating mode normal/economy
mode of the OP30C can be configured with the MATRIX.PC service tool.)

Notice!
If a setting for day operation is received externally (e.g, from MATRIX.DI/Clock
or MATRIX.LON), the economy mode values cannot be saved by pressing the
economy mode key >5 seconds.
The reduced values can be changed with the MATRIX.PC service tool.
Or you remove the external influence in order to be able to save the values for
the economy mode via the control panel.

7.5 Error Messages

Notice!
The features of the MATRIX control panels and the air treatment units depend
on the model variant.
Depending on the features, a few error messages are not activated.

The MATRIX control panels are furnished with an expanded error message list. The
error messages are presented by a single LED display (1) with different blink codes .
An error message consists of a maximum of four blink pulses. The pulses are dis-
tinguished by short and long light durations.
The error messages are ordered according to priority (see <Name>Blink codes of the
DencoHappel MATRIX control panels OP20C/OP21x/OP30x/OP31C/OP44x), so that
an important error message overwrites a less important one . If the important error is
resolved, the next error message is subsequently shown.

Example:
The sensor of the room temperature is defective (priority 20) and the corresponding
blink code is displayed.
Then the motor protection is triggered (priority 2).
Since the triggering of the motor protection has a higher priority, this error message is
displayed (by a long blink).

Notice!
If an error is eliminated, it is no longer reported at the MATRIX control panel. The
error message automatically extinguishes.
