Introduction: ● Today, the class will read the book B is for Breathing and
watch the movie If Your Insides Could Talk to learn
positive coping methods and see how they are put to use.
Students will be able to identify and discuss their own
emotions and coping methods.To conclude, the class will be
given scenarios in which they must choose the most
positive emotional response.
Instructional Activities: 1. We are going to engage in a group discussion about our different feelings and
emotions we experience daily
2. We are then going to read the book “B is for Breathe” By. Dr. Melissa Boyd
3. After participating in the read aloud, the students will identify 3 new
mechanisms for coping with their feelings and emotions.
4. Then the students will watch the movie “If Your Insides Could Talk: An
Emotion Story
5. At the end of the film, students will be presented with four emotional dilemmas.
They’ll have two resolution choices to choose between. Students will choose
the solution that best represents a positive emotional response to the dilemma
versus a negative emotional response to the dilemma.

Wrap Up- Synthesis/Closing: ● Assessment questions will be the wrap up/closing.

Assessment:
● Students will be presented with four emotional dilemmas. They’ll have two resolution choices to choose between.
Students will choose the solution that best represents a positive emotional response to the dilemma versus a
negative emotional response to the dilemma.
a. (Scenario 1): Another child taking your toy away
■ (Choice A): get angry and snatch the toy back
■ (Choice B): be nice and ask for the toy nicely
b. (Scenario 2): Mom telling you to turn off your IPad before bed
■ (Choice A): get ready for bed and then ask for a few more minutes
■ (Choice B): get sad and cry to to keep the iPad
c. (Scenario 3): A teacher telling you it’s time to come inside after recess
■ (Choice A): get upset and run back to the playground
■ (Choice B): follow directions and line up to go inside
d. (Scenario 4): Your dad saying “When I get off the phone” when you ask to play with him.
■ (Choice A): wait patiently for him to finish
■ (Choice B): get frustrated and yell for him to hurry up
