The deterioration of the islands.

San Andres and Providencia islands are some rich territories in flora, fauna and tourism. More
than 60 species of animals and plants within a 1.000m2 can be found. Although, the considerable
distance created an atmosphere of neglect. In fact, the area has been forgotten. Everyone is
conscious that the colombian government has led aside this part of the country. The US
government plunder the resources. Presidents do not see. However, the economy contribution of
the land is always on time. When it comes to social and cultural injection the ones in the power
turn to look away.
During some years, a country as Nicaragua claimed that a part of this land belonged to them.
As a result of the dispute of the marine platform delimitation. But, if a person does not give
importance to an object of his own, somebody else will do. It is the natural order. The islanders
seems to not fit in due to their interculturality. Costeños, paisas, caleños, and so on, do not
identify themselves with them. Also, the rejection of brothers has made islanders to close the
doors. One can evidence it from the Miss Colombia beauty contest. Once Nicaragua took a
portion of the ocean, Colombia even promoted some political, social and educational campaigns
such as helping to the overpopulation or militarize the costs to protect peasants from robberies.
