INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION

The financial sector, of which the banking industry is the largest player,
has also been undergoing a metamorphic change. Automated Teller Machine
(ATM) is a computerized machine placed by the bank in various places of a city
or town to enable customers to access their accounts and perform certain
banking operations.

ATM was the first well-known machines to provide electronic access to


customers with advent of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Banks are able to
serve customers outside the banking hall. ATM is designed to perform the most
important functions of bank. It is operated by plastic card is replacing cheque,
personal attendance of the customer, banking hours restrictions and paper based
verifications. ATM allows you to do a number of banking functions. Such as
withdrawing cash from ones account, making balance to other-using a plastic,
magnetic strip card and personal identification number issued by the financial
institutions.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

Most of modern ATM, the customer is identified by inserting a plastic


ATM card with a Magnetic stripe or a plastic smart card with, (a magnetic stripe
or a plastic smart card with a chip contains a unique card number and some
security information. Authentication is provided by the customer entering a
personal identification number (PIN). ATM provides a 24 hours access to cash
and customer account information and that attracted customers and improved
their satisfaction.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To identify the various service offered by ATM centres

 To examine the factors affecting the choice of ATM.

 To examine the customers perception on the benefits and problems


associated with ATM services.

 To suggest the measures and strategies to overcome the problems faced by


customers and there by improve the efficiency.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

Now a day ATM has a lot of functionalities along with its basic use of
cash dispensing. Some of them are, cash and cheque deposit, fund transfer,
mobile recharge etc... On this ground, it is very crucial conducting “A STUDY
ON ATM EFFECTIEVENESS”. To conduct comparative study of a public
sector and a private sector bank is selected.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

• The research findings will be made available to the management of banks and
it’s aimed at improving general banking whole services at the branch

• Providing necessary recommendations to the management regarding ways to


improve ATM services patronage, increasing teller's efficiency

• They wouldn't be under too much pressure to serve the customers that would
be using the banking hall to transact banking hall services and increasing the
satisfaction of ATM customers with regard to the services offered to them
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The process used to collect information and data for the purpose of
making business decisions. The methodology may include publication research,
interviews, surveys and other research techniques, and could include both
present and historical information.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The research design refers to the overall strategy that you choose to
integrate the different components of the study. Ensuring you will effectively
address the research problem. It constitutes the blue print for the collection,
measurement and analysis of data.

POPULATION

The population covered in this project report refers to the customers


using ATM services in Malappuram district.

DATA COLLECTION

Data collection is defined as the procedure of collecting, measuring and


analyzing accurate insights for research using standard validated techniques.

SOURCES OF DATA

The study uses both primary and secondary data.

a) Primary data

Primary data is original research that is obtained through first hand


investigation. Primary data include information collected from interviews
experiments, surveys) questionnaires.
b) Secondary data

Secondary data refers to data that was collected by someone when than the
user. It collected through books and internet.

SAMPLING DESIGN

• Sampling unit

Each customer of bank using ATM services.

• Sample size

The sample size was taken to be 50 customers.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUES

Convenience sampling is the following for the subject.

• Simple percentage analysis

PERIOD OF STUDY

The period of study was 3 weeks. The study consists of various stages,
which includes identification of problem, collection of data, analyzing the data
and finding the solution. Data is collected from the public during this period of
study.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
• The period of study was limited.
• The study is limited to small group of ATM users. There for findings may
not reveal the factual information about the research problem, through an
utmost care is taken to select truly representative sample.
• People were reluctant to give the details of because of their busy
schedules.
• Due to continue change in environment what is relevant today may be
irrelevant tomorrow.
