Inspection/Check

Starter Drive Gearshaft:

1. Visual Inspection
NOTE: The reliability of this method depends on the ability and experience of
personnel who must know how to look for engine defects and how to identify
an area where such defects are found.
Inspect for the following Defects:
 Cracks. Check for any signs of visible cracks, cracks that are found in
the Starter Drive Gearshaft must be repaired. Any amount to a
maximum of 0.10in (2.54 mm) is still repairable if it exceeds said limit it
must be replaced.
 Check for any signs of wear and tear. parts that have been worn out for
too long must be replaced with new ones.
 Inspect for any signs of Overheating. Early signs of defect are
noticeable such as burns and discoloration.
 Check for any signs of Discolorations due to Contamination. Any
contamination must be removed to prevent further damages. Use metal
cleaners to remove any contamination.
 Check for any signs of Pits and Burrs

2. Borescope Inspection.
Some remote areas might be difficult to inspect using the naked eye and may
require Special Equipments. Perform Borescope Inspection through
Inspection ports.

Hydraulic Pump Drive

Inspect for the following defects:

 Contamination. While it is not uncommon for some contaminants to

enter the system, if you keep most of them out then it avoids regular
issues. Some things to look for include sediment and variation in fluid
color. visual inspection will only provide you with symptoms of
excessive contamination.
 Reservoir & Fluid Levels. Inspect the fill screens, breather caps, and
breather filters, along with the reservoir itself. look for signs of aeration
(bubbles) and foaming, along with variations in odor and color. If the
pump is taking in air, you may hear a gargling noise. If any of these
items show signs of wear or damage, replace them immediately.
 Check for any signs of Cavitation. Excessive noise in a hydraulic
system can be caused by the presence of air in the hydraulic pump.
Introduction of air into the system can be the result of a leak in the
suction line.

Fuel Pump Drive

Inspect for the following:
 Be sure to check if the Fuel Pump Drive is in Proper Operation. Any
signs of damages must be replaced to prevent any unnecessary
accidents.
 Inspect for any signs of leakage. Early warning signs may be
noticeable such as: Whining sounds, Overheating and Starting
issues.
 Inspect for wear and tear on the Motor Brushes. Parts that are worn
out or damaged must be repaired if possible, otherwise replace.
 Check the drain lines for any signs of bends, traps and restrictions.
Make sure that the drain lines are free from any signs of defects to
prevent damages that can further lead to accidents.
 Check the vent for any signs of restrictions. Make sure that the
vents does not have any obstructions.
