(3) what reforms (e.g.

, revisions of law or any policy) could and should be pursued by

Filipinos in their communities?
Since the Philippines is one of the largest contributors of plastic pollution worldwide, we
should pursue the enactment of House Bill No. 8692, or the “Ban on Single-use Plastic
Products”. It promotes a balanced and healthy ecology between the people and
environment by encouraging us to use sustainable products to reduce our plastic
consumption. In addition, this act applies to the nation-wide ban of manufacturing,
importing and selling of single-use plastics in business enterprises. With the challenges
arising from plastic pollution and improper waste disposal, there’s a need for Filipinos to
change their plastic consumption habits. Although using plastic brings convenience, we
have to take note that we should be more concerned on the long-term consequences
due to overconsumption of single-use plastics. Filipinos shall find alternatives to
minimize the use of plastics such as using reusable bags and containers. If the
community do not seem responsive with this act, the assistance of government and
leading agencies is highly needed for an effective implementation of ban on single-use
plastic products. They can directly cut down the plastic usage in establishments before
it reaches consumers. I believe that we can overcome our plastic consumption habits if
this is taken with utmost adherence and concern.
