3 Using the Converter

The TOSHIBA GRT100 XRIO converter can be used as a stand-alone converter or in association with a
relay specific test template, for example with the OMICRON Transformer Differential Protection template
for the GRT100 relay.

In any way the converter is used, follow the quick start instructions and create your test using LinkToXRIO
or start using the relay specific test template (for more information, see the test template documentation).

4 Required Software Version

To use this converter, you must have a valid license for the OMICRON Test Universe 2.30 software or
higher.

5 Functional Range
The TOSHIBA GRT100 XRIO converter implements the following functions:
 87 Differential protection for three and two windings transformer (see the Note below)
 50/50N/51/51N Definite time and timed overcurrent for up to three windings
 Harmonic blocking (2nd and 5th harmonic)
 49 Thermal overload protection

Figure 2: Functional range of the TOSHIBA GRT100 XRIO converter

Some of the functions listed above use the RIO interface of the Test Universe software. Consequently, the
test modules are configured automatically without using LinkToXRIO.
The following functions use the RIO interface:
 87 Differential protection
 50/50N/51/51N Definite time and timed overcurrent
 49 Thermal overload protection

For testing the other functions, you must use LinkToXRIO.

Note: For using 3 winding transformer or 2 winding transformer please set the "Transformer" parameter in
Additional Information- Power System Parameters – Transformer Information, to 3-winding or 2-winding
enumeration.

6 Not Supported Functions

The following functions are currently not supported:
 Restricted Earth Fault Protection

 Frequency protection
 Overexcitation protection
 Monitoring Functions

7 OMICRON Test Strategy

The OMICRON test strategy is described in the OMICRON Protection Test Template (PTT) Differential
documentation. For detailed information, see the PTT Differential documentation.

8 Relay Settings Import

Relay settings can be imported in .csv format (TOSHIBA RSM100 parameter export). Select the Filter for
Toshiba RSM100.csv Settings and open the settings file to import the relay settings into the XRIO-
converter.

Figure 3: Select the Filter for Toshiba RSM100.csv Settings

After the relay settings have been imported successfully, a message box showing the number of imported
parameters appears.

Figure 4: Report after successful parameter import

Additionally, the imported parameters are shown as Information in the Error View of the Test Object.
When the import of a parameter fails, it gets shown as an error or warning in the Error View.

9 Converter Structure
The converter is divided into two sections: the GRT100 section and the RIO section. Both sections consist
of several function blocks. The converter comes up in the standard view; the RIOplus section and the
template controller section can only be seen in the advanced view.

9.1 GRT100 Section

The GRT100 section is divided into four groups: the Relay Parameter Section, the Additional
Information section, the RIOplus section and the Template Controller section.

9.1.1 Relay Parameter Section

The Relay Parameter Section includes parameters which can be changed by the user. All relay
parameters are included in this section and can be set to the actual relay values. The parameters are
named as in the TOCHIBA RSM100 software.

9.1.2 Additional Information

This block contains additional data for testing the GRT100 relay functionality. The block is divided into the
following sections:

9.1.2.1 General Information section

General information section is divided into two sections: General, Test Tolerance and Hardware.
 General section – includes detailed information needed for the test report like manufacturer,
device type, substation name etc. This section includes parameters which have to be changed by
the user according to the customer relay type and substation.
 Test Tolerance includes the Test Tolerance parameter.

9.1.2.2 Relay Information section

This block has been added for relay specific parameters and relay configuration parameters. The
Relay Information section is divided into two sections: Test Tolerances and Configurations.
 Test Tolerances includes all tolerances that can be found in the GRT100 relay Manual. Typically,
these blocks don't have to be changed, as the parameters are already set to the values given in
the user manual of the relay.
 Configurations include the relay configuration parameters.

9.1.2.3 Power System Parameters section

The Power System Parameters section includes power system configuration information which is needed
for testing the relay protection function with OMICRON Test Universe software, e.g. Circuit Breaker or
Transformer information. This section includes parameters which have to be changed by the user
according to the customer power system. The Power System Parameters section includes all power
system devices: Transformer Information, Circuit Breaker Information Side1, Circuit Breaker

Information Side2 and Circuit Breaker Information Side3. The Transformer information subblock
includes following configurations information:
 Winding count: Transformer configuration, 3 winding or 2 winding
 SNOM Transformer: Rated apparent power of the transformer

9.1.3 Template Controller (Advanced view)

The Template Controller block contains special values needed for some tests, especially for tests using
LinkToXRIO. These are mainly calculated values which cannot be calculated using LinkToXRIO and
therefore have to be stored in this section. Other values needed for customer designed test can be stored
in this block.

9.1.4 RIOPlus (Advanced view)

The RIOplus block contains the interface, which provides the link between the XRIO converter and all test
modules which have no access to RIO functions. All tests using basic test modules like Ramping or State
Sequencer have to be linked to the parameters in the RIOplus section of the converter.

9.2 RIO
The RIO section of the converter contains all specialized RIO functions needed to use the more
specialized test modules (like Advanced Differential or Overcurrent) provided by the OMICRON Test
Universe software.

Warning: Do not change any values in this section. The values have been set using the relay settings of
the Relay Parameter Section.

Note: Do not activate the former test object view in the advanced mode of the XRIO test object. Changing
parameters in this view could disable formulas in the RIO section.

9.2.1 Differential side 1- side 2

The RIO differential function provides the necessary values for testing the differential protection function
of the GRT100 relay for winding 1 - 2. The RIO differential function contains all values needed for using
the following OMICRON Test Universe modules:
 Diff Configuration
 Diff characteristic
 Diff trip time
 Diff harmonic restraint

9.2.2 Differential side 1- side 3

The RIO differential function provides the necessary values for testing the differential protection function
of the GRT100 relay for side 1 – side 3. The RIO differential function contains all values needed for using
the following OMICRON Test Universe modules:
 Diff Configuration
 Diff characteristic
 Diff trip time
 Diff harmonic restraint

9.2.3 Overcurrent Side 1, Side 2 and Side 3

The overcurrent RIO functions contain the overcurrent characteristics for the phase-phase and phase-
ground faults for the forward direction. As there are three overcurrent elements, one for each transformer
winding, the overcurrent protection is divided into three blocks. These blocks are filled with the
corresponding test values. The protection functions supported by this RIO function include:

 50/51
 50N/51N

9.2.4 Thermal Overload Side 1

The following RIO overcurrent functions for testing the thermal overload protection function for the side 1
with Test Universe are implemented in the RIO block of the GRT100 XRIO converter:
 Thermal Overload Side 1 Trip
 Thermal Overload Side 1 Warning
Each of these modules contains the thermal overload characteristic curve.

9.3 Activating the RIO functions

The RIO functions have to be set to active manually in each Overcurrent test module if the converter is
used in the stand-alone mode. Activate the RIO function you intend to use in the local test object
configuration as shown below.

9.4 Specific Features

This section deals with special requirements of some of the converter's functions. Functions not listed
here have no known limitations to their functionalities.

9.4.1 Differential side 1- side 3

Please be informed, that the RIO block "Differential 1-3" has been modified for the functionalities of the
OMICRON Test Universe Diff Operating Characteristic module. So for testing the side 1 to side 3 the
Winding 1 and Winding 2 of the "Differential 1-3" block has been used. The third Winding is renamed to
"None" and has no effect of the testing.
