The Standby battery is a self contained power source that operates
in charge and the discharge modes. The battery is a 17 or 40 A hour battery with an assembly of
individual cells contained in a steel case. Each cell is connected in
series to make 24 Vdc at the terminals. Solid copper bus bars are
used to connect the cells.
The standby battery weighs 38.5 lb (17.46 kg). They are 7.7 in.
(195.6 mm) wide, 8.5 in. (215.9 mm) long and 9.75 in. (247.7 mm)
high.
The left upper nose compartment door must be opened to access
the battery. The battery is secured to the airframe in the nose
compartment by tabs that are part of the battery case cover. The
case is a steel box with a removable cover to gain access for
inspection. It also has a vent port that attaches to a tube that routes
the gases overboard through a containment vessel.
If the aircraft has a 40 A hour standby battery installed with no
Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), it is located in the aft fuselage
compartment. The aft fuselage compartment door must be opened to
access the battery. The battery is secured to a shelf by tabs that are
part of the battery case cover. It also has a vent port that attaches to
a tube that routes the gases overboard through a containment vessel
near the battery.

A. Obey all the electrical/electronic safety precautions (Refer to AMM24−00−00−910−801).
4. Fault Confirmation

A. Confirm the fault as follows:
(1) Record the main battery temperature from the electrical systems page of the Multi
Function Display (MFD).
(2) If the pilot had previously reported the main battery temperature more than 71 °C
(160 °F), refer to Subtask FIM24−30−00−810−029.
(3) If the pilot had not previously reported the main battery temperature more than 71
°C (160 °F), refer to Subtask FIM24−30−00−810−077.
5. Fault Isolation
Subtask 24−30−00−810−029
A. Remove and replace the main battery (Refer to AMM24−32−01−000−801 and
AMM24−32−01−400−801). Do the Close Out.

NOTE: When you do a check for the ground faults, you must do the check with the airframe
ground and the connector backshell shield ground points.
B. Remove the thermocouple connector from the main battery.
C. If the MAIN BAT HOT warning light goes off, do the steps that follow:
(1) Remove and replace the main battery (Refer to AMM24−32−01−000−801 and
AMM24−32−01−400−801).
(2) Install the thermocouple connector to the main battery. Do the Close Out.
D. Check the wiring for the ground faults and the isolation resistance between the CAWP
3312−P2 (pin 23) and the aircraft ground (Refer to WM24−31−00, WM24−32−00 and
AMM20−30−11−760−801). Do the Close Out.
E. If the wiring is unserviceable, repair the wiring. Do the Close Out.
F. Install the thermocouple connector to the main battery.
G. If the fault still continues, remove and replace the CAWP (Refer to
AMM31−51−01−000−801 and AMM31−51−01−400−801). Do the Close Out.

(6) On the MFD, make sure that voltage shows only on the L ESS and R ESS DC BUS displays

(3) On the DC CONTROL panel, set the MAIN BUS TIE switch to the MAIN BUS TIE position.

(5) On the MFD, make sure that the BATT AUX display shows the approximate ambient
temperature.
(6) On the MFD, make sure that the BATT AUX LOAD display shows a maximum value of 1.00.
(7) On the DC CONTROL panel, set the AUX BATT and the MAIN BUS TIE switch to the OFF
position.
