Trip Report: “Taller de Psicología Escolar”

On February 22rh, 2021, a webinar titled “Taller de Psicología Escolar” was offered by

the Asociacion de Estudiantes de Psicologia (AEP) via Google Meet where the Dra. Patricia L.

Landers Santiago and Dra. Maria Isabel Cristina Bravo Saavedra, both scholar psychologists,

discussed the differences between clinical psychology and school psychologists, how in the past

years the work of the school psychologist has been shadowed by the clinical psychologist and

underestimated by the education and medical system.

The webinar was open for all the student community not only for the students of the

Social Sciences department. Although the webinar was relatively short, approximately 35-40

minutes long, Dra. Landers and Dra. Bravo open up about how not only the school psychologists

work for an institution or school, but are part of the community from the base level to the

political level, given that their purpose is to connect with the people and help them. Also

explained how thanks to the Asociación de Psicologos de Puerto Rico (APPR) their profession

has gained the respect they deserve, and the Asociación de Psicologos Escolares de Puerto Rico

(APEP) was created in 1998.

This helped understand how, even in the professional life, there is still an undermining

for others professions even on the same work field, just for the fact that he or she took a different

approach or focus to fulfill their passion.
