Body Paragraph for Trifles Essay

After Mrs. Peters noticed the jar of cherries, the County Attorney, Mr. Hale, and the

Sherriff not only ignored its significance to the case but also acknowledge how Mrs. Hale was

loyal to "her sex" for insulting men's filthy hands. Furthermore, this tension between the gender

becomes more apparent, for both wives hid away the dead canary and the quilt to protect Mrs.

Wright, the situational irony that Glaspell sought out to underscore how both wives were

irrational and bewildered. They never suspected women since they traditionally agreed that men

could commit such vicious and vile acts, like how they deduced that John Wright killed the

canary. Similarly, the male characters never considered how integral the trifles would be to the

case. They traditionally assumed that there should be concrete pieces of evidence and a handgun

involved in the murder, yet all three characters were bewildered - their expectation was not met.
