Capacity refers to all the strengths, attributes and resources available within a community,
organization or society to manage and reduce disaster risks and strengthen resilience.
2. Capacity is defined under 3 categories; design capacity, effective capacity and actual utilization
capacity. The operations utilisation of resources and the efficiency of its processes can then be
calculated using these. This is a theoretical number and not one that is applied to the daily
production of an operation.
3. Unemployment, poverty, addiction, violence and mental health issues are major risk factors
associated with child abuse and neglect. A child with disabilities, or being a young single parent,
can also be stress factors that pose an increased risk for the child.
4. The occurrence of a disaster depends on two factors: hazard: the probability of occurrence of a
potentially damaging phenomenon, vulnerability: the degree of loss resulting from the
occurrence of the phenomenon
