Some people achieve fitness through different physical activities like in


dancing which demand a certain amount of inherent skill. One of these dances is
folkdance, which refers to the dances created and performed collectively by ordinary
people. Folk dance is divided into: Regional dances that is particular to one locale or
area; National dances performed all over the country; and Creative folk dance refers
to character dances whose choreography uses folk steps and music.
In this activity sheet, you will be introduced to folk dancing as one of the
physical activities that you can do to enhance your personal fitness. You may not
end up as the best folk dancer, but these activities will bring you to an enjoyable and
worthwhile experience while improving the level of fitness at the same time.

At the end of the learning activities, the students should be able to:

1. undertake Physical activity and physical fitness assessments- PE7PFIIIa-

1.1 . determine the physical fitness component related to folk dancing;
1.2 . appreciate the value of folk dancing to oneself; and
1.3 . create a brief description of an identified folk dance through
drawing, sketching, poster making or video presentation.
