CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND IT’S SCOPE

Introduction

The COVID19 pandemic has change the way of living, livelihood, behaviors and

even economic growth in the country. People are becoming more vigilant and

compliance to government’s actions through formulation of new laws and guidelines to

manage and prevent transmission of the disease. Citizens and even health workers

should maintain extra careful in socializing and event communicating personally with

others to prevent transmission of disease. Worse, even the carrier of COVID19 disease

is unaware that he/she has already the virus inside of them. More susceptible are those

geriatrics, pregnant, with comorbidities, immunocompromise and others as identified by

the Department of Health.

Our pregnant mothers are susceptible for the disease since they need to take

extra careful and considerations during the course of their pregnancy. Some pregnant

mothers could be asymptomatic bur for those symptomatic, COVID19 may complicate

to serious illness which may affect both mothers and the child. Pregnant women who

have COVID19 appear more likely to develop respiratory complications that those who

aren’t pregnant.

Further, the researchers would like to assess closely the behavior of pregnant

women and if they will be able to compose themselves during this pandemic. Covering
all aspects of assessment which includes the physical, mental, emotional, social and

spiritual approach to better understand their behaviors. Contemplating all these aspects,

we can gather more information as to how pregnant mothers able to prevent themselves

from gaining such disease and if affected, how they able to survive without serious

illness and complications.

Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental has their own culture

and way of life, thus we cannot compare recent researchers on them. We need to fully

understand their behaviors especially the pregnant women living on that area. Barangay

Lumbia is geographically far from the heart of the city and there could be some

interesting response and perception we can collect and record.

Forecasting possible results of these study may be used to formulate more

guidelines specifically for them. We can provide more inputs on how to control their

behavior and event perception on the disease. Considerations are provided but we what

to assess deeply on how they react and perceive this pandemic. Hence, everybody can

be a host but how they react is more important to understand and may be added to our

existing laws towards COVID19 pandemic response.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

The conceptual framework of the study merely elaborates and discuss the

behaviors of pregnant women during the course of COVID19 pandemic in the country.

The researchers would like to go deeper to better understand how these pregnant

women were able to respond the health threats caused by the pandemic.

Figure 1: Conceptual framework of behaviors and health care services for pregnant

women during COVID19 pandemic

Due to different existing guidelines and protocols in adherence to COVID19

pandemic prevention and control, series of community activities were posted and

established to prevent its transmission. As reflected in figure 1, a lot of measures and

response were considered especially the health care services offered to them.

Figure 2: Schematic Diagram of behaviors of Pregnant women and its Variations

On the concept of variations, the researchers would like to understand two major

concepts of variations which are the access to health care services and perception on

the COVID19 pandemic. Health care services should not be altered especially during

the course of pregnancy and perception on the disease process is vital to better

understand their mental responses.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The researchers aim to identify the variations on behavior of pregnant women

during COVID19 pandemic by answering the following questions relative to the study:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents?

2. Is there a consistent access to maternal health care services?

3. What are the perceptions of pregnant women on COVID19 pandemic?

4. Is there a strict adherence to the guidelines and protocols regarding COVID19

prevention and control?

5. Is there a significant difference between behavioral changes and access to

health care services during COVID19 pandemic?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of the study aims to identify the variations on behavioral

changes among pregnant women of Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City during COVID19

Pandemic.

PREGNANT WOMEN. Better understand the disease prevention of COVID19

and correction of existing perception regarding the disease.

BARANGAY COUNCIL OF LUMBIA. Continuous monitoring of the activity and

behaviors of pregnant women to prevent transmission of COVID19 disease.

BARANGAY HEALTH STATION. Continuation of health promotion and disease

prevention despite the COVID19 pandemic threats.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The researchers identify the scope and limitation of the study to pregnant

mothers of Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City exclusively. Inclusive dates to cover will be

from May 2020 to December 2020 who are local resident of Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan

de Oro City for 5 years or more. Add more discussions…

these concepts were used on identifying the variations of behaviors among pregnant

mothers during COVID19 Pandemic.
