Chapter 1 Topic on Terminal System of Switch

1.1 Set BAM Automatically Logging

This function can guarantee BAM automatically logging without manual interruption
when BAM restarts.
Run program Hwsetter.exe. This program is located under default directory
d:\cc08\services on BAM.

Set User and password correctly, select Automatic login, and Click OK.
Restart BAM to check whether BAM can automatically logging or not.

1.2 Set NT Log Space

As we know, NT system will save some operation log in system. To avoid some log
insufficient problems, we need to set NT log space correctly.
Run Start-->Programs-->Administration Tools(Common)-->Event Viewer

Select Menu Log-->Log Settings

Select System log, set Maximum Log Size as 2048, and select Overwrite Events as
Needed

Select Security log, repeat as step 3)

Select Application log, repeat as step 3)
Click OK to finish setting.

1.3 Set Virtual Memory of BAM

Because of shortage of virtual memory on BAM, in come cases, it will lead to BAM
restart automatically. Following is the method introducing how to enlarge the virtual
memory of BAM.

Click My computer, right-click mouse to select Properties

Select page Performance, click Change

Set Maximum Size as 256, click Set, and set Maximum Registry Size as 64. After
setting, click OK.
System will prompt to restart computer, restart it.

1.4 Set Virtual Memory of SQL Server On BAM

Because of shortage of SQL Server virtual memory, in come cases, it will lead to BAM
restart automatically. Following is the method introducing how to enlarge the virtual
memory of SQL Server.
Run Start-->Programs-->Microsoft SQL Server 7.0-->Enterprise Manager

Click SQL Server Group, click server name, here is PPS (Windows NT), right-click
mouse to select Properties.

Select page Memory, Select Use a Fixed Size Memory (MB), move Scroll Bar to half
position of max size, here is 64MB. It should be not less than 40 percent of max size.

Click OK to finish setting.

1.5 How to solve the problem of SQL Server cannot start

after changing BAM computer’s name
In normal case, we had set correct BAM computer name during project deployment. If
customer needs to change BAM name after commission, after restarting BAM, it will
show alarm as: Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or had been tampered
with (unknown package id) Please rerun setup. And then SQL Server cannot be
started, it leads to BAM services cannot work normally.
We can use follow method to solve this problem without reinstall SQL Server and
C&C08 software.
Backup databases like Bam, BillData, Stats, Test and Alarm through SQL Enterprise
Manager to avoid emergency case.
Insert SQL Server installation CD, system will automatically enter into installation
interface, click Install SQL Server 7.0 Components.
Click Database Server-Standard Edition in next interface. System will search
components which had already installed, and then it will indicate Update, click OK.

System will not install SQL Server or any components, but only refresh setting of SQL
Server about BAM computer name.
After system refresh, click Finish to restart BAM.
After restarting BAM, run C&C08 Switch Alarm Panel to configure office information,
then it should be OK to run C&C08 client and maintenance.

1.6 How to modify connection number of SQL Server7

If the connection number of SQL Server7 is too small, it will result that new client
cannot connect to BAM successfully. Generally speaking, during installing Windows
NT and SQL Server, it is required to set the connection at least 50.
Following is method how to modify connection number of SQL Server7 if it is needed.
Run Start-->Programs-->Microsoft SQL Server 7.0-->Enterprise Manager

Click SQL Server Group, click server name, here is Y25124 (Windows NT), right-click
mouse to select Properties.
Select page Connections, Set Maximum concurrent user connections.

1.7 Method to solve Unsuccessful Installation of DAO on

Win2000
Unsuccessful installation of DAO will result to abnormal running of C&C08 Warn and
Maintenance.
Run msconfig.exe. This file can be obtained from windows 98 or windows XP, or
directly use this file

Select Diagnostic Startup in page General.

Select page Service, confirm not to select Hide All Microsoft Services.
Select page Service, confirm to select Windows Installer.
Click OK, restart system.
Reinstall DAO, it will be successful.
After installing DAO, run msconfig.exe again. Select Normal Startup in page General
to restore BAM startup configuration, then restart BAM.
Please pay attention to follow above steps strictly, otherwise it may result that some
services cannot be running normally because of some processor had not been
started.

1.8 Check Whether C805MCP Installation Successful or not

on Win2000
If C805MCP didn’t install successfully on Win2000, it will result to communication
failed between 128 stand module and MPU.
Following method introduces how to check C805MCP installation successful or not on
Win2000.
Open the window of Computer Management in the Administrations Tools folder and
enter the Device Manager. If the displayed information about the MCP Card is as
shown in the following figure, the MCP card is successfully installed (and
unnecessary to be unloaded). If the icon beside mcpmaincard is a yellow exclamatory
mark, the MCP card is not successfully installed and must be unloaded and then
reinstalled, go to step 2.

Unload the current MCP card as shown in the above figure. The system will prompt
you to restart the computer. After the computer restarts, the system will prompt that a
new piece of hardware is discovered, follow the installation guide to install the MCP
card. When it comes to the step of searching for the driver, select the installation
directory of the BAM server—D:\cc08\services\mcp (default installation directory)
where the driver is saved. Follow the installation guide to complete the installation.

1.9 Frequent Report of Database Operation Errors After

BAM Upgrade
After one office is upgraded to the 128BAM, there are frequent reports of database
operation errors.

Cause of the problem: At the final step of BAM installation, the system will prompt you
to determine whether to restart the system right away or not. In most cases, the
system is allowed to restart immediately to update and activate the corresponding
services. After the Windows restarts, BAM will automatically restart. At this time, the
value of tbl_Log_Identity is null. MML will automatically insert a value 0 as the initial
record. The database is then upgraded. During the upgrade, the tbl_Log and
tbl_Log_Identity data of the old database will be upgraded to the new one. BAM can
then be normally restarted.
After the upgrade, the identity value in MML is still 0. If you start using the database
immediately after the upgrade (using the MML command), the first log record will use
0 as its identity and the first tbl_Log_Identity to change via the trigger will also be 0,
resulting in a data inconsistency between tbl_Log and tbl_Log_Identity. This trouble
will persist even after BAM restarts,
Because the latest identity value in the database is updated to MML through the
trigger mechanism rather than MML submits a query to the database each time it
needs to assign a new identity.
Solution 1: If it is necessary to update the database, do not restart the system at the
final step of the BAM installation, but start upgrading the data immediately. After the
upgrade, restart the system manually.
Solution 2: After the data upgrade, restart the BAM right away without running any
MML command. This is to ensure that no MML commands are run at any terminal
before the BAM restarts.
If the problem already exists after the Bam upgrade, launch SQL Analyze, select the
BAM database and run the following commands to shoot the trouble.

1.10 Perfmon Process Exceptional on Win2000

For the 128Bam service, Perfmon is a system process that is configured in the BAM
system configuration file 128BAM.INI as follows:

Start = 2

ProcessID =
ModuleName = Perfmon.exe
From the above configuration, we see that by use of Perfmon.exe, the executable file
provided by WinNT. As Windows 2000 has changed this mechanism, when the
original 128BAM runs on Windows 2000, BAM Manager will keep reporting
Perfmon.exe as abnormal and keep starting a new instance.

Solution: Open the 128BAM.INI file, change the statement Start=2 under
system\perfmon to Start=3, that is, change the start mode to manual start. And then
all the things left to do are to stop the process manually in Bam Manager.

1.11 Cautions on Installing the FTP Service

For the first time of BAM installation, the correct procedure is: Power on the server,
configure the disk array RAID—Install Windows NT Server4.0—Install NT Service
Pack—Install IE 4.01 SP1—Install Internet FTP service (optional)—Reinstall NT
Service Pack—Install SQL Server 7.0—Install the dialup network server
(optional)—Reinstall NT Service Pack—Install DAO—Install the BAM server. (In the
Windows NT environment, the installation of any hardware or software may result in
the change of the PACK system file. Therefore, NT Service Pack should be installed
each time after the installation of a new piece of software. But actually, before
installing SQL Server, we can install NT Service Pack for just one time at the end of
the new software installations.)
If you have installed BAM server before installing FTP, the two files ODBCCP32.DLL
and ODBCINT.DLL in the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 direction will be modified during the
FTP installation. As a result, BAM Manager will fail to run due to the invalidity of the
modified files (usually after SQL SERVER starts, but in the worst cases, neither will
SQL SERVER run). However, this will not affect the normal running of the WINNT
operating system.
To solve the problem, the ODBCCP32.DLL and ODBCINT.DLL files must be first
backed up before the FTP installation and then copied back to the original directory to
overwrite the modified ODBCCP32.DLL and ODBCINT.DLL files after the FTP
installation.
If the error has occurred without doing the backup beforehand, copy the two files from
a WINNT host that has not yet been installed with the FTP service to overwrite the
local files.

1.12 Frequent Connection Interruptions between WS and

BAM
Symptoms: During the deployment, the Maintenance running on the workstation
frequently prompts that: The maintenance socket was closed unexpectedly,
and has been reconnected successfully!
The workstation sometimes can reconnect to the BAM server, but sometimes it
cannot. These symptoms have occurred on both the emergency work station (WINNT)
and the Windows XP work station, but not on the Maintenance running on the BAM
server.
Solution:
Check the IP addresses of the network adapters of BAM server. You will find that two
of the network adapters belong to the 129.9.0.0 network segment (used for the
workstation), change the IP address of the unused one, so that it belongs to an
unused network segment. Or disable the unused network adapter. The problem is
then solved.

1.13 The Dataman process of 128BAM Running Abnormally

Symptoms: An overseas office complains that the Dataman process always becomes
an Exception after running for a span of time. The scheduled tasks like automatic
database backup therefore fail to run. The BAM has to be restarted to recover to
normality, but after a span of time, the Dataman process will turn abnormal again.
To shoot the trouble, follow this procedure:
Run Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Services, check whether Remote
Procedure Call (RPC) had been started or not

If not or if it is started but then stopped after some time, the WINNT system may have
been infected by some virus. If this is the case, the recommended solution is to
re-install the WINNT server.
The case with the overseas office has been proved to be the result of abnormal RPC
behavior caused by virus infection. And the final solution is to reinstall the Windows
NT system. Similar problems have also occurred with domestic offices.
If the RPC service is running normally, and therefore, is not the cause of the problem,
proceed with the next step for troubleshooting:
z Has the pack provided by Microsoft against the Worm.Blaster virus been
installed on the server? Overseas Fiexed Network TSD has once issued a
technical notice, addressing specially the installation of this pack . Please follow
the Operation Guide to install the pack.

Note:
If the server is already infected by the virus, the installation of the anti-virus pack will take no effects. The
only way to shoot the trouble is as described in Step 1).

Verify if the system is indeed infected by virus. Overseas Fixed Network TSD has
once issued a technical notice, addressing specially the way to perform virus check.
Please follow the Operation Guide to perform the check.
Caution: Never try to kill the virus blindly by directly running a piece of anti-virus
software, for this may damage the NT/C&C08 system.
