Wedding

 In Gaddang culture, marriage is a way of extending kinship ties that’s why marriage to second
cousin is acceptable. An informal courtship and child betrothal are being done and marriage
were performed after an engaged couple lived together for 3-6 months.
 A feast usually signifies the marriage and the couple would usually receive inheritance from
each set of parents. After the wedding, the newly-wed couple will be living with the bride’s
family so that the husband would give a one-year service as the bride service.

Burial System

 Traditionally, Gaddang people performs death rituals to a deceased. It is usually long


and involved because it was believed that the spirit of the deceased must be put into
rest so that it will not return and cause mischief to others especially its family.

Customs & Traditions

 Gaddangs’ awareness to their genealogy is important because it will determine where they fit
into the society as well as their status in various situations.
 Their residences are elevated and supported with tall posts of wood or bamboo that include a
removable ladder that can be drawn up day and/or night to avoid intruders or enemies.
 Status within the Gaddang community was determined by bravery, knowledge of customary
laws, ability to speak in public occasions, and wealth with a status of mingal or great warrior.
 Gaddang Community was separated by Non- Christian and Christian. Non-Christians consider
Nanolay as their creator of all things and a culture hero while Christians adhere the practice of
worshipping and doing rituals.
