78. Sūrah al-naba (The Great News)

What are they asking (one another)?

The pagans say, "What! When we become mere bones
and dust, shall we then be brought back to life again?"

When Allah said in Surah al-Muddathir, v. 30: َ﴾َ‫سََاءَلَوََن‬

ََ‫عليهاَتسعةَعَش‬ َ‫(هم)=َفاعل‬ َ‫فعل‬
“On the hell fire, nineteen guardians of the angels have
been appointed.” َ‫َمتعلق=َمجلةَفعلية‬+‫َفاعل‬+‫فعل‬
One of the disbelievers said,

“There are only nineteen!? I can handle nineteen.”
• Who asked whom?
1. The Disbelievers asked the believers.
2. The Disbelievers asked each other.
3. Both the disbelievers and the believers asked the
Messenger of Allah.

They shall know the certainty of it and also the
consequences of their unbelief and disobedience.

The ‫س‬
ّ in ّ‫ سيعلمون‬is short for ‫ف‬

There is no need for doubting expressing

Judgment which is bound to take place.

Another word related to ّ‫مّهّّادا‬ ّ ُّis ّ‫ّّمّّهد‬.
ّّ
The word ّ‫ ّّمّّهد‬is the cradle,
or even the womb of the mother,
or the cradle in which the child is comfortable.

Allah says, “Didn’t We make the earth a place in


which you would be comfortable?”
ّ ّ
In classical Arabic, ّ‫مّهّّادا‬
ّ ّis used for bed. This is a
place where you find peace and tranquility.
