Avances tecnológicos de materiales y maquinarias

INTRODUCTION

The 3d metal printer is a great technological advance, both in machinery and materials, the problem previously
was: the machinery was very large, occupying a lot of space, and difficult to handle, the materials are heavy,
depending on the material was the price, and so on. Now let's look at the progress of machinery. The first printer
was made of paper, and with the technological advances, we were able to make the 3D filament printer.

METHODS AND MATERIALS

Of course, our main purpose was to find a machine or a way to have production of parts easier and faster when we
started to investigate and found such a tool that offered the solution to our problem

We based on this research because it is something that goes with the race, to have a better production in our field
of work, with the matter to know what materials and what innovations have in the 3d metal printers our research
was through consultations and websites where we tried to focus on how the materials worked, its history, etc.

RESULTS

Let's learn a little about the history of 3d metal printing: 3d metal printers use technologies called Direct Metal
Printing (DMP) to build parts from CAD files. They use a high precision laser that is used to solidify the metal
powder. Their range of 3D printers includes among others the ProX DMP 300, ProX DMP 200, DMP Factory 350,
and 3D printers in the dental sector such as the DMP Dental 10 P 300, la ProX DMP 200, la DMP Factory 350, e
impresoras 3D en el sector dental como la DMP Dental 100.

 Arcam, 3D printers for the aerospace sector

 AddUp, using selective laser fusion
 Aconity3D GmbH and its modular metal 3D printers
 Concept Laser, high volume metal 3D printers founded in 2000
 DMG Mori, Fusion and Powder Nozzle Technology
 EOS, specialists in powder melting technologies
 Renishaw, light metal manufacturing
 Sisma, 3D printers for specific industries
 SLM Solutions, mutliple laser options
 Trumpf, specialist in 3D metal printing with multiple technologies
 Xact Metal, from university project to 3D manufacturer
 Matsuura, hybrid laser sintering machines
 Etc.

In our institution we have a Hass UMC-750 CNC machine (COMPUTERIZED NUMERICAL CONTROL) of 5
axes, we have some 3d filament printers, etc.
We found that the 3d metal printer is used in the industry to create tools and parts, mainly this machine is used in
the sector of aircraft and rocket parts, in the medical sector where they create prototypes, implants, etc. In the
marine sector to create boat parts and pieces.

3D metal printing occupies a unique position in modern product development. It allows the direct manufacture of
complex end-use parts and facilitates the production of tools for traditional manufacturing technologies, thus
reducing costs and delivery times. This technology is also known as Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) and
Selective Laser Melting (SLM)

3D printing has become popular Actually, 3D printing on metal took its first steps almost
simultaneously with plastic printing in the 1980s and 1990s. The basic technique consists of a laser
that moves over a bed of metal alloy powder, melting it in the right places to create a cross section of
the object, to which new layers will be added following the digitized planes of the piece. However,
this technology has been slow to take off because its performance is lower than that of traditional
mold manufacturing, especially in terms of resistance. The metal obtained through printing is more
porous and scaled both in the size of the pieces and in their quantity.

Let's see how it applies in aviation:

These obstacles are disappearing with the improvement of technology, which in the last year has led
to the boom of 3D metal printing. In October 2017, engineers from Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory (USA) described an additive manufacturing system that can triple the strength of the best
cast stainless steel without sacrificing ductility, and all using commercially available components. As
the researchers wrote in the journal Nature Materials, their results demonstrate "the flexibility of
additive manufacturing to adapt microstructures and produce metals and alloys with excellent
properties".

Compatible metals:

Among the most commonly used metals, we find aluminum, mainly in the form of an alloy, which offers lightness
and resistance. It is used to create parts where weight is essential, such as in aeronautics and automotive, for
example. Steel is also a popular material, especially in industry; it offers good mechanical properties and a correct
surface finish. It is the most widely used material in additive metal manufacturing.

There are also materials such as gallium, which is very present, Colbatochrome for medical applications, titanium
which is highly resistant to corrosion and biocompatibility for medical applications.

Precious metals are mainly used in jewelry. Despite its high cost, we find gold, silver and bronze to create all kinds
of jewelry more or less complex. The main challenge lies in the finish.
